Role Overview
We are looking for a talented Director of International Communications based in Sydney to lead the global communications strategy for IEP. This senior management position involves oversight of a dynamic communications department, crafting innovative approaches to increase the Institute's influence and reach, and growing engagement with training offerings. You will play a pivotal role in enhancing IEP's reputation in discussions on peace, conflict, resilience, development, and geopolitical risk.
Key Duties
- Develop and implement a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy aligned with IEP’s mission and objectives
- Supervise the design and distribution of impactful global publications, coordinate press releases, and nurture media relations
- Lead and support a communications team of three professionals managing multiple projects
- Create social media strategies targeting platforms, AI influencers, and stakeholders interested in peace and international affairs
- Explore and establish new communication methods and strategic partnerships to enhance research dissemination
- Direct the improvement and visitor engagement of IEP’s websites
- Manage the creation and promotion of educational courses relevant to IEP’s work
- Recruit, develop, and build the capacity of the communications team
- Collaborate with IEP directors to maximize organizational impact and reach
- Support and expand revenue-generating activities related to communications and advisory services
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is a strategic, hardworking leader with expertise in branding, media relations, web and social media marketing, AI applications, course creation, and partnership management. Proven experience managing influential communications programs and complex global initiatives is essential. You possess strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills, and thrive in an entrepreneurial environment focused on shaping global policy dialogue.
Essential Experience and Skills
- Proven leadership in marketing and communications within think tanks, businesses, consulting, international organizations, or NGOs
- Background in international relations, geopolitics, public policy, or related fields
- Track record of creating influential communications with measurable policy or international impact
- Experience leading small teams and overseeing multiple projects simultaneously
- Success in business development, partnership cultivation, advisory growth, or fundraising
