Overview

The Director of Manufacturing leads all manufacturing operations to guarantee safety, quality, efficiency, profitability, and customer satisfaction. This leadership role is responsible for providing strategic and operational guidance to production teams, driving continuous enhancements, and collaborating cross-functionally to align manufacturing outcomes with organizational goals. The director acts as the central contact for production leadership and works closely with executive management to achieve top operational standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage daily manufacturing activities to adhere to production schedules, quality criteria, and customer expectations.
  • Track operational performance and apply corrective measures to sustain productivity and efficiency.
  • Optimize the use of labor, machinery, and materials effectively.
  • Design and implement manufacturing strategies that foster growth and meet business targets.
  • Lead efforts in production forecasting, capacity assessment, resource distribution, and process refinement.
  • Pinpoint opportunities to scale operations and boost profitability.
  • Hire, train, mentor, and evaluate manufacturing leaders and staff.
  • Promote a workplace culture emphasizing accountability, teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Set clear performance standards and support professional growth through coaching and training.
  • Identify production bottlenecks, introduce technological advancements, and champion ongoing improvement projects.
  • Ensure products consistently meet set quality standards and customer requirements.
  • Maintain compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory policies.
  • Lead quality assurance measures and encourage a culture of safety.
  • Plan and oversee manufacturing budgets and capital investments.
  • Monitor costs related to production, labor, and operations.
  • Discover and enact cost-saving measures without sacrificing quality or service levels.
  • Collaborate with sales, production, and finance departments to ensure manufacturing supports overall business objectives.
  • Coordinate production planning, inventory control, and project implementation for operational consistency.
  • Define and track key performance indicators encompassing safety, quality, productivity, delivery, and cost.
  • Prepare analytical reports and strategic proposals for executive leadership.
  • Apply data-driven decision-making to enhance manufacturing results.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in manufacturing, engineering, operations management, business administration, or related discipline; equivalent experience may be accepted.
  • Over 10 years of advancing leadership experience in manufacturing, including management of large-scale production environments.
  • Proven track record in process optimization, operational excellence, and leadership.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing systems, quality control, safety regulations, and continuous improvement frameworks.
  • Experience with ERP software, production scheduling tools, and Microsoft Office.
  • Exceptional leadership, organizational, analytical, and communication capabilities.
  • Preferred: background in commercial printing, packaging, direct mail, or similar print manufacturing industries.
  • Familiarity with offset, digital, and large-format printing methods.
  • Understanding of print finishing, bindery, mailing, workflow automation, and color management processes.

Work Conditions

  • The position requires presence in both office and manufacturing environments.
  • Frequent time on the production floor to supervise operations, support personnel, and ensure quality and safety compliance.
  • May involve prolonged standing, walking, bending, and navigating manufacturing spaces.
  • Regular collaboration with internal departments and senior leadership is expected.
