Position Overview
The Assistant Director of Operations will support the Director of Distribution Operations by overseeing warehouse, transportation, and related operational functions at the distribution center. The role's goal is to ensure customer satisfaction, meet financial and operational targets, and advance talent development. This role leads campus-wide activities focused on Safety, Quality Assurance, and Training.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess the performance and potential across all distribution center areas, address any deficiencies, and implement corrective measures to meet operational goals.
- Assist in the preparation and execution of annual operation plans; forecast and organize staffing, equipment, and schedules for peak and holiday periods.
- Promote a culture of high customer service standards, monitor outcomes, and address any service issues; maintain communication with account teams, customer service, leadership, and customers regarding delays, special requests, or service shortfalls.
- Lead the adoption of improved processes, new equipment, and facilities, achieving enhanced business results; collaborate with other business units to ensure customer satisfaction and meet corporate objectives.
- Ensure a safe environment for employees and visitors by enforcing company policies and health and safety regulations; oversee accident prevention, security measures, record keeping, regulatory compliance, inspections, audits, safety training, and associate development.
- Support individual and team performance improvement initiatives aligned with campus and company goals; conduct performance appraisals; assist in succession planning, team engagement, and development activities.
- Note: This position requires relocation to Miami, Florida, and involves working the 2nd shift.
Work Environment
- Work settings include refrigerated warehouses (28°F to 60°F), freezer warehouses (-20°F to 0°F), grocery warehouses (50°F to 90°F), and office environments (65°F to 75°F).
Required Skills and Knowledge
- Comprehensive experience in retail distribution, logistics, supply chain management, and warehouse or transportation operations.
- Knowledge of Department of Transportation (D.O.T.) regulations and tractor-trailer operations.
- Strong leadership abilities, especially in facilitating teams, training personnel, and motivating diverse groups.
- Physical ability to spend extensive time at a workstation on the computer, with some walking in warehouse or outdoor environments.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in General Studies or a related field.
- 7 to 10 years of relevant experience in retail operations, distribution, transportation, logistics, or supply chain management, or a comparable combination of education and experience.
