Position Overview
The Director of Instructional Systems leads the consistent, quality implementation of educational instructional systems within a portfolio of KIPP Texas schools. Reporting to the Managing Director of Instructional Systems, this role is responsible for translating academic goals into actionable plans and refining instructional processes and data tools to support effective teaching practices and student learning.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop instructional data management tools such as assessment trackers and dashboards.
- Create and maintain aligned response mechanisms including coaching teams, practice sessions, and professional development to empower school leadership.
- Convert academic priorities into clear workflows, templates, and expectations for school teams.
- Build effective reporting structures that allow leaders to detect patterns, gaps, and root causes quickly.
- Ensure all instructional tools are user-friendly, efficient, and operationally relevant.
- Define non-negotiable standards for system use to ensure consistent application across all schools.
- Refine leadership practices and reports for monitoring academic outcomes and instructional quality.
- Oversee rollout of instructional systems including assessment and data review cycles across schools.
- Model behavior, co-lead training, and coach school leaders on instructional system execution and expectations.
- Collaborate with senior leaders to provide targeted guidance where system implementation needs strengthening.
- Monitor system use through observations, feedback, and data to identify strengths and improvement areas.
- Embed instructional systems within routine leadership activities and teaching practices.
- Track both quality and consistency of system utilization, maintaining trustworthy data frameworks.
- Engage school leaders in evaluating implementation trends and prioritizing enhancements.
- Distinguish between formal compliance and genuine instructional improvements.
- Address challenges with clear feedback and solutions in partnership with Managing Director.
- Support leaders in interpreting student data to make informed instructional decisions.
- Encourage consistent data analysis and application routines with ongoing assistance.
- Evaluate system effectiveness and propose improvements based on feedback and data insights.
- Simplify tools and processes that cause complexity or hinder system adoption.
- Ensure continuous alignment of systems with school realities and priorities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
- At least 4 years of relevant experience in educational leadership, data or instructional systems; former principal experience highly favored.
- Proficient in data-driven instruction, assessment construction, and monitoring progress.
- Proven track record developing or managing systems that positively impact student success.
- Experience collaborating with or supporting instructional teams and school leaders.

Additional Details
Travel between campuses and regions is required frequently. Reliable transportation is essential. The role involves working in typical office/school settings with frequent interruptions, attending conferences and meetings both virtually and in-person. Candidates must be prepared to manage stress and maintain emotional control.
