Job description

Position Overview

The Director of Human Resources is a key leadership role responsible for directing and implementing all facets of the company’s HR functions. This position fosters a high-performance and supportive workplace culture, acting as a reliable advisor to both employees and leadership. Key responsibilities include employee relations, talent management, recruitment, compliance, employee development, and HR operations oversight.

Core Responsibilities

  • Serve as a trusted liaison for employees and management on human resources issues.
  • Cultivate strong relationships organization-wide to encourage a respectful and inclusive work environment.
  • Conduct regular engagement efforts to assess employee needs and address workplace challenges promptly and professionally.
  • Collaborate with leadership to mediate employee relations and ensure fair and consistent policy execution.
  • Provide guidance on workplace policies, expectations, and resolve performance-related matters.
  • Lead initiatives to boost employee engagement and satisfaction enhancing retention.
  • Support employee development and performance management by facilitating reviews, setting clear performance expectations, and identifying growth opportunities.
  • Drive recruiting strategies in partnership with hiring managers to attract and onboard suitable talent effectively.
  • Manage candidate interactions, interview processes, and maintain pipelines for current and future hiring needs.
  • Coordinate with the Safety Manager to monitor and communicate workplace safety efforts, participate in incident reviews, and assist in safety-related employee engagement.
  • Oversee HR documentation, ensure accuracy and compliance with employment laws, including maintenance of personnel files both physical and digital.
  • Lead HR policy development, communicate updates, and uphold confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Prepare and analyze HR reporting and workforce metrics; support audits and implement improvements in HR systems and workflow efficiencies.
  • Administer PTO tracking and HR calendars to guarantee consistent policy adherence and compliance with deadlines.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Leadership, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years progressive experience in various HR disciplines including employee relations, recruitment, compliance, and performance management.
  • Relevant HR certifications such as SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR are advantageous.

Physical Demands

  • Extended periods of sitting and computer work are required.
  • Ability to occasionally lift items weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Mobility within office and field settings as necessary.

Reporting Structure and Employment Details

This full-time, exempt position reports to the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Leadership Team, based onsite in Alexandria, VA.
