Job description

Role Overview

The Sun Belt Conference is seeking a Director of Graphic Design to spearhead and enrich the brand identity through innovative visual design. This full-time position is based in New Orleans, Louisiana, at the Superdome headquarters, operating on a hybrid schedule with three days onsite and two days remote weekly. The role reports directly to the Senior Associate Commissioner, Chief Communications & Branding Officer.

About the Sun Belt Conference

Established in 1976 and elevated to Football Bowl Subdivision status in 2001, the Sun Belt Conference comprises 14 member institutions across nine neighboring states. It has shown marked athletic success with multiple NCAA bids in eight sports over the last four years and leads non-autonomy conferences in football bowl representation. The conference's rising profile is illustrated by a 1202% surge in social media engagement and a 175% increase in followership, with nation-wide marketing campaigns featuring prominent billboard placements, including Times Square and Miami during marquee college football events.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the lead graphic designer producing original static and motion graphics, conceptualizing and executing designs for social media, video boards, websites, marketing collateral, and printed materials.
  • Deliver timely proofs and revisions while ensuring consistency in the Sun Belt brand across all visual outputs.
  • Collaborate closely with the Communications & Branding team and the Director of Creative Video to maintain brand integrity and synergy.
  • Provide graphic content on tight deadlines for breaking news and events relevant to the conference.
  • Support overarching communications and social media strategies.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with communications and creative departments at member institutions.
  • Travel to Sun Belt Conference championship events as needed and perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in graphic design, communications, or equivalent field.
  • Between 1 and 3 years of relevant professional experience, ideally within collegiate or professional sports settings.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including After Effects, Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of social media and digital trends.
  • Capability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with flexibility to adjust to shifting priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of working effectively across departments and with external stakeholders.
  • High discretion handling confidential materials.
  • Availability for travel and extended work hours, including nights and weekends when required.

Compensation and Benefits

The annual salary ranges from $50,000 to $55,000. The Conference offers employer-paid relocation support, a subsidized insurance plan, funded retirement contributions, an employer-paid cell phone plan, a generous holiday and PTO policy, and a hybrid working environment.

Additional Details

Applicants must submit a resume, cover letter, references list, and portfolio. The employer assists with relocation expenses. The role requires a collaborative spirit and dedication to enhancing the Conference's visual brand presence.
