Working Conditions

Role Summary
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Finance oversees all financial activities, including accounting and budgeting operations. This strategic role ensures financial process integrity, data accuracy, and compliance with legal and regulatory standards. Responsibilities include managing financial oversight, providing analytical support for decision making, managing financial and administrative risk, and supporting growth of a small to mid-sized enterprise subject to annual audits.
Core Responsibilities
- Manage daily financial functions such as general accounting, payables and receivables, and payroll administration
- Oversee month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes ensuring precise financial reporting
- Prepare and evaluate financial statements, management reports, and budgets, providing strategic recommendations to improve financial outcomes
- Coordinate internal and external audits and ensure tax and regulatory compliance
- Lead and mentor the Administrative and Accounting Coordinator
- Create and implement financial policies, procedures, and systems maximizing efficiency and compliance with accounting standards
- Research, assess, and oversee grant programs and tax incentives alongside tax strategy optimization
- Develop financial plans, forecasts, and budgets aligned with corporate strategies
- Provide financial advisory to senior leadership including risk assessment and investment evaluations
- Maintain effective communication and relationships with financial institutions, government entities, partners, and other external stakeholders
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or an equivalent qualification
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation mandatory
- Minimum of five years in a comparable management capacity
- Experience within a consulting firm setting preferred
- Strong commitment to Habitat's mission and environmental values
- Fluent spoken and written French required; functional or advanced English skills as per client requirements
Essential Skills
- Deep knowledge of accounting principles, consolidation processes, and financial analysis
- Expertise in ensuring adherence to diverse accounting, tax, and legal regulations
- Ability to extract and utilize financial data from decision support systems
- Strong leadership and collaborative skills across multidisciplinary teams
- Proficiency with accounting and financial reporting software
- Experience in dynamic, fast-evolving environments
- Project-based financial management experience is an advantage
