About Healthix
Healthix stands as New York State's largest public health information exchange, securely connecting thousands of healthcare providers, hospitals, insurers, and community organizations. Our mission is to enhance the quality, safety, and efficiency of healthcare by ensuring clinicians and public health stakeholders access timely and accurate health data to make informed decisions that better serve their communities.
As Healthix evolves, we are broadening our focus beyond merely exchanging data towards making health information more actionable for healthcare providers, community partners, and public health initiatives. This shift emphasizes strengthening community relations, promoting health equity, and supporting innovative collaborations between healthcare and community services.
Through programs like Healthix Connects, our volunteer and community engagement initiative, we deepen partnerships with local organizations and create opportunities for our team to actively contribute to healthier communities.
Joining Healthix means becoming part of a mission-driven organization dedicated to transforming health information sharing and weaving stronger connections between healthcare systems and the communities they serve.
Role Overview
The Director of Finance, reporting directly to the CEO and collaborating closely with the AVP of Finance/Controller, leads strategic planning, coordination, and management of the company's financial operations. This position is instrumental in reinforcing financial procedures, ensuring compliance with grants and regulations, and modernizing finance functions through enhanced systems integration, automation, and cross-department cooperation.
The role emphasizes improving operational workflows and efficiency, including deploying and optimizing financial platforms like Salesforce and QuickBooks. It also focuses on enhancing collaboration with customer-facing teams to standardize invoicing, contracts, and billing processes, facilitating timely and precise revenue recognition.
A strong dedication to exceptional internal and external customer service, commitment to continuous improvement, and enthusiasm for leveraging technology to elevate finance operations are essential. The Director of Finance works closely with the New York eHealth Collaborative (NYeC) to ensure timely financial reporting and audit support.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and submit timely, accurate monthly expenditure reports aligned with NYeC grant requirements, ensuring compliance and completeness.
- Collaborate with AVP of Finance/Controller to manage dual budgets for the SHIN-NY contract — covering both NYeC fiscal and company calendar years.
- Coordinate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports to NYeC, including audit support and associated documentation.
- Assist external tax professionals with preparation of Form 990 and other fiscal filings.
- Manage billing and collections for contracts, ensuring invoicing accuracy and timeliness per contractual agreements.
- Work with Customer Success, Project Management, Sales, and QA teams to standardize invoicing and contracting workflows.
- Ensure accurate revenue recognition through review of contracts, statements of work, and supporting documents.
- Maintain and improve internal controls and financial governance practices.
- Support accounting operations including general ledger maintenance, journal entries, and monthly closing processes.
- Prepare schedules and analyses for Finance and Audit Committee meetings quarterly.
- Assist in year-end close activities and compilation of audit schedules.
- Participate in quarterly Audit and Finance Committee meetings.
- Support preparation of financial analyses and materials for Executive Leadership and Board meetings.
- Produce ad hoc financial analyses as requested by CEO, senior leaders, and Board members.
- Continuously review expenses and processes to identify cost savings and increase operational efficiency.
- Lead modernization of finance operations including automation, system integration, and policy development.
- Provide functional leadership within the Finance department without direct supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications and Skills
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) licensed in New York State.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or closely related field.
- Intermediate to advanced expertise in QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel, and Salesforce.
- At least six years of progressively responsible accounting or finance experience, preferably in nonprofit or grant-funded organizations.
- Profound understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Experience handling month-end and year-end closings, auditing processes, and complex reconciliations.
- Knowledge of grant accounting and administration at state and federal levels.
- Preferred experience with A-133 or equivalent grant audits.
- Experience in implementing or improving financial systems and automation solutions.
- Proven ability to create and enforce financial policies and procedures.
