Position Summary

The Regional Director of Operations for the Midwest acts as the executive leader responsible for overseeing all on-site construction activities in the region. B&S functions as the preferred site developer working closely with general contractors and clients in hyperscale data centers, large-scale industrial campuses, and complex civil infrastructure projects.

Reporting directly to the VP/GM of the Midwest, this position owns the self-perform field organization and serves as the primary client-facing representative. As the company continues rapid growth, this role is vital for expanding the field organization, enhancing client partnerships, and ensuring consistent operational excellence across multiple simultaneous projects.

This leadership role combines operational management, workforce strategy, and business collaboration, ensuring projects are properly staffed, executed efficiently, and delivered safely on schedule and within target margins. The Director will optimize labor and equipment deployment, implement production benchmarks, and grow the field leadership and craft workforce to ensure outstanding project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all on-site construction in the Midwest, enforcing schedule adherence and budget compliance.
  • Manage senior superintendents, superintendents, foremen, and field teams, ensuring accountability to standardized operating procedures.
  • Represent B&S as a leading operational authority within the mission-critical ecosystem.
  • Collaborate with the VP/GM, Business Development, and Estimating teams providing constructability assessments, means/methods reviews, and resource planning during project pursuits.
  • Participate in intake and pre-bid meetings to validate productivity, staffing, sequencing, and operational feasibility.
  • Drive consistent schedule discipline, monitor critical paths, and coordinate trade sequencing on all projects.
  • Set and uphold realistic, defensible production standards factoring site conditions.
  • Optimize labor, equipment, and resource deployment to enhance productivity and utilization.
  • Lead corrective actions and recovery plans when performance targets are not met.
  • Promote and maintain a safety-first culture aligned with corporate and OSHA standards through regular inspections and enforce risk management policies.
  • Recruit, train, and retain self-perform workforce, strengthening local labor pools and reducing dependence on travelers.
  • Mentor superintendents and foremen to build organizational depth and capability.
  • Coordinate workforce scheduling, materials logistics, and equipment allocation to prevent bottlenecks and minimize unnecessary costs.
  • Manage subcontractor performance, ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and schedule requirements.
  • Partner with project managers on budgets, labor and equipment planning, change orders, and schedule development.
  • Implement consistent field documentation, production tracking, and reporting using company systems.
  • Encourage the use of new technologies and tools that improve operational visibility and field performance.
  • Assist in developing regional operational plans, workforce forecasting, capital equipment strategies, and growth initiatives.
  • Monitor project risks, quality deviations, and time/cost overruns, implementing solutions to ensure successful project delivery.

Required Qualifications

  • Over 20 years of progressive leadership experience in heavy civil self-perform construction with responsibility for multiple projects and teams.
  • Expertise in earthwork, mass grading, and wet utilities including storm, sanitary, and water systems.
  • Proven track record of representing construction firms with general contractors, developers, and owners during project pursuits and execution.
  • Experience managing regional operations during growth phases, including workforce and resource planning and process standardization.
  • Strong skills in conflict resolution, negotiation, and change management to lead diverse large teams.
  • In-depth knowledge of construction documents, phasing plans, permitting processes, and modern field documentation platforms such as Procore.
  • Demonstrated safety leadership; OSHA 30/500 certification preferred.
  • Proficiency with construction scheduling software and civil engineering plan interpretation.
  • Based in Columbus, Ohio and available for travel throughout the Midwest.
  • Background in mission-critical, data center, or large-scale industrial site development is highly preferred.

Performance Metrics

  • Adherence to milestone deadlines and on-time project completion
  • Labor productivity and variance compared to preconstruction budgets
  • Quality control and reduction of punch list items at project turnover

Benefits and Culture

  • Career development opportunities including training programs and career progression paths.
  • Engaging and challenging project portfolio that promotes skill growth.
  • Access to advanced equipment and technology within the construction industry.
  • Commitment to safety with routine training and strict safety standards.
  • Comprehensive benefits including health, life, dental and vision insurance, 401(k) with matching up to 6%, paid time off, paid parental and medical leave, and paid holidays.
