Role Overview
The Director of Events is a pivotal strategic and operational leader responsible for managing Nerdio's complete corporate events portfolio. This includes primary external events like NerdioCon, significant third-party events such as Microsoft Ignite, and vital internal gatherings including company-wide meetings and sales incentive trips. The role demands visionary leadership that integrates brand and company strategies into impactful event experiences for customers, partners, employees, and executives. It requires creativity, precise operations, collaborative cross-functional communication, and strong executive presence. The Director will lead internal staff and external vendors, utilizing AI to enhance event workflows and scalability without increasing headcount.
Responsibilities
- Lead the strategic planning, execution, and budget management for major customer and partner conferences, including NerdioCon and Microsoft Ignite.
- Oversee the annual sales incentive trips such as President’s Club in partnership with sales leadership and direct the Corporate Events Manager on daily event operations.
- Guide the organization of company-wide all-hands meetings and key executive offsites with the Corporate Events Manager and Senior Event Manager.
- Develop and implement consistent procedures, templates, and toolkits for event organization across the company.
- Manage the events technology stack, including registration and event management platforms, mobile applications, and hybrid event tools.
- Identify and integrate AI solutions to streamline content creation, agenda planning, attendee personalization, and post-event analytics.
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators such as ROI, attendee satisfaction, NPS, and lead generation impact.
- Coordinate post-event reviews to foster continuous improvement.
- Manage the consolidated events budget and oversee requests for proposals, contracts, and compliance for vendor agreements.
- Collaborate with Sales, Product, HR, Finance, and Executive teams to align event strategies with business objectives.
- Work closely with Demand Generation and creative teams to ensure events support pipeline goals and consistent brand messaging.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the events team, including direct management of the Corporate Events Manager and external agencies.
Qualifications
- Over 8 years of event management experience, with a minimum of 3 years in senior or director roles.
- Proven success managing large-scale conferences with attendance exceeding 1,000 and budgets over $4 million.
- Experience organizing incentive travel programs and President's Club events.
- Expertise in internal corporate event planning such as all-hands meetings and executive offsites.
- Strong budgeting and event P&L ownership capabilities.
- Exceptional project management skills to juggle multiple complex events concurrently.
- Proficient in vendor negotiation and contract management.
- Excellent verbal and written communication paired with strong executive presence.
- Ability to adapt to ambiguous situations, tight deadlines, and shifting priorities.
- Willingness to travel up to 40%, including events extending into nights and weekends.
Preferred Skills
- Background in B2B SaaS, cloud technologies, or Microsoft ecosystem companies.
- Experience managing partner and channel community events.
- Proficiency with event technology platforms such as Cvent.
- CMP certification or equivalent professional credentials.
- Experience executing hybrid and virtual event formats.
- Practical usage of AI tools to enhance event planning, marketing, or operations.
- Agency management experience.
