Job description
About the role
n8n is an open workflow orchestration platform designed for the AI era. It helps technical teams combine the flexibility of code with the speed of no-code, so they can automate work faster, build smarter, and create without limits. Supported by a highly engaged builder community and more than 500 integrations approved by users, the company is reshaping how systems connect and how ideas scale.
Founded in 2019, n8n has grown into a team of 260+ people working across Europe and the US, with its main hub in Berlin. The company has built a community of over 650,000 active developers and builders, earned 190K+ GitHub stars, and reached a $5.2bn valuation with backing from major investors, including Sequoia and SAP.
Applicants are encouraged to try the product firsthand and share a screenshot of their first workflow. The easiest way to start is by registering on the platform and building something simple.
This is a key leadership role focused on guiding and scaling the Core Experience engineering organization. The remit includes helping multiple product teams deliver strong user experiences, solid technical foundations, and ambitious AI-native product work.
What you'll do
- Lead, coach, and develop several engineering teams within the Core Experience area.
- Shape an organization that can scale across established product surfaces as well as an expanding set of AI-focused teams.
- Build a culture of high ownership and strong performance where engineers can take on ambitious work and stay close to user impact.
- Set technical direction across the domain and help teams make effective architectural choices and trade-offs.
- Work closely with Product, Design, and engineering leadership to turn strategy into clear priorities and delivery plans.
- Help teams deliver outcomes with the right balance of speed, quality, and long-term maintainability.
- Guide the development of AI-powered product experiences, especially where large language models are involved.
- Bring practical judgment to the risks and opportunities of AI product development so teams can move responsibly and ahead of the curve.
- Support product work that uses AI internally and also enables customers to build their own AI workflows and agents.
- Create clarity and alignment so teams can operate well through growth, ambiguity, and shifting priorities.
- Coach managers and teams toward strong execution, healthy collaboration, and consistently high engineering standards.
- Represent the Core Experience organization within the wider engineering leadership group and keep its direction aligned with company goals.
What we're looking for
- Several years of experience leading multiple engineering teams, including direct management of Engineering Managers, in a fast-growing product company.
- A proven ability to define technical strategy across a broad product area and convert it into measurable priorities and results.
- Deep engineering credibility with the ability to contribute meaningfully to architecture and technical decisions.
- Strong people leadership skills, including coaching leaders, giving clear feedback, and helping teams build ownership and judgment.
- Background leading product engineering teams that shipped meaningful customer-facing experiences in a fast-moving SaaS environment.
- Experience with AI-native products or AI-powered product experiences, including awareness of the trade-offs and risks involved.
- Comfort leading teams across countries in a remote-first setup.
- A delivery and quality mindset, with experience building systems and operating rhythms that keep teams focused on outcomes.
- Experience in a scaling company and exposure to the organizational challenges that come with rapid growth.
- Interest or experience in developer tools, workflow automation, open-source software, or adjacent technical products.
- Familiarity with TypeScript, JavaScript, or Node.js is a plus.
- Strong product sense and the ability to partner closely with Product and Design on user-facing decisions.
Eligibility
This opportunity is open to candidates who can work remotely from Europe. The company can sponsor visas for Germany; for other countries, candidates must already have the right to work. The working language is English.
Equal opportunity
n8n is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes applicants regardless of race, religion, colour, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
