The Director of Culture plays a key role in shaping, reinforcing, and elevating our company culture aligned with our Consumer First Formula and Winning Teams strategy. This leadership position collaborates cross-functionally to design and implement programs, engagement initiatives, and experiences fostering a high-performing and associate-focused workplace across the Home Office, Distribution Centers, and Stores. Reporting to the Vice President of Community & Culture, the role combines strategy, execution, and trusted advisory responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a strategic partner and trusted expert on culture, inclusion, and belonging, advising HR leaders and executives on embedding inclusive practices into daily operations and people processes.
- Continuously monitor external trends, legal matters, and best practices to provide business-relevant guidance.
- Develop and implement an integrated culture and belonging strategy aligned with company priorities.
- Define enterprise-wide KPIs for Business Resource Group (BRG) programs to promote talent development, cultural expression, and community engagement.
- Identify success metrics reflecting behavioral change, associate experience, retention, and performance.
- Analyze organizational culture health data and proactively address risks and opportunities.
- Coordinate internal culture initiatives with external brand storytelling efforts.
- Create annual programming roadmaps linking BRG activities, heritage months, and cultural events to measurable associate outcomes.
- Lead content creation for internal communications, town halls, and company meetings.
- Oversee BRG governance structures to ensure broad associate engagement across all populations.
- Manage BRG-related giving and external partnerships aligned with corporate and philanthropic goals.
- Design and expand inclusive leadership development programs embedded in onboarding and ongoing learning.
- Provide leaders with practical resources to foster cultural intelligence and belonging in team sessions and performance management.
- Establish reporting processes to deliver insights to senior leadership and contribute to external disclosures.
- Lead, coach, and develop the culture team, manage priorities, accountability, and budget within departmental objectives.
- Champion an inclusive culture by supporting leaders and teams through cultural moments and inclusive behavior modeling.
- Advise communications and marketing teams on culturally sensitive, inclusive messaging internally and externally.
- Ensure purposeful and inclusive heritage and cultural events that engage all associate groups including frontline and corporate staff.
- Guide BRGs to inform business decisions and enhance associate engagement and retention.
Qualifications
- Minimum eight years of progressive experience leading culture, employee engagement, or HR initiatives; retail or consumer goods experience preferred.
- Proven success in designing and scaling culture programs within complex organizations serving diverse populations.
- Experience advising senior leaders with strong executive presence in topics of culture, belonging, and associate experience.
- Strategic experience with Business Resource Groups including governance and KPIs.
- Prior leadership of teams or people management.
- Deep expertise in inclusion, belonging, cultural competency, and organizational behavior frameworks.
- Able to navigate sensitive cultural and legal issues with balanced business insight.
- Skilled at developing long-term strategies linking cross-functional goals with measurable business results and assessments.
- Strong instincts for program design and comfortable operating amid ambiguity.
- Advanced communication abilities including executive presentations and storytelling.
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business Administration, Psychology or related fields required; Master's degree preferred.
