Director of Construction

Role Overview

This opportunity is for a senior construction leader who can help create a construction organization that is both profitable and able to scale. The ideal person will bring a strong base in construction and construction management, along with practical know-how in launching, expanding, and improving a construction business. The role is based in San Antonio, Texas and reports to the Board of Directors. It also focuses on keeping construction management standards aligned across all franchises owned and operated by Team Simonis.

Compensation and Benefits

The pay structure combines salary with commission. The annual compensation range is $85,000 to $105,000. Additional benefits include dental coverage, health coverage, paid time off, and medical, dental, vision, and prescription insurance. Optional life insurance and other benefits are also available.

Primary Responsibilities

• Create yearly operating plans and budgets, then set quarterly goals to support accountability.
• Establish, update, and put into practice policies and processes that keep work consistent.
• Review key performance metrics to monitor business and project performance.
• Oversee procurement activities and allocation of resources.
• Make sure construction work is completed to a high standard and follows all safety rules and procedures.
• Carry out progress inspections and final walkthroughs after construction is complete.
• Confirm that contractors’ work complies with industry expectations.
• Develop and sustain strong working relationships with clients, customers, directors, and team members.
• Lead recruitment, training, career development, and day-to-day guidance for the construction team with support from HR.
• Identify, evaluate, manage, and reduce business and project risks.
• Handle sensitive information with a high level of discretion.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Strong verbal and written communication ability.
• Comfortable using an iPad, laptop, and related technology.
• Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
• Strong organization skills and close attention to detail.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools such as Outlook, Word, and Excel.
• Ability to review and negotiate contracts effectively.
• Proven leadership, management, and coordination skills.
• Good analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, and sound decision-making.
• Solid commercial awareness and business judgment.
• Deep understanding of the construction industry.
• Must be able to pass a background screening.

Education and Experience

A bachelor’s degree in engineering or another construction-related discipline is preferred. Prior management experience is required. Candidates must have at least 7 years of experience in a construction-related field, including knowledge of insurance-related reconstruction projects. Hands-on familiarity with general construction and estimate preparation, including tools such as Symbility and Xactimate, is required. The role also requires the ability to interpret floor plans and blueprints.

Eligibility

This position is suited to experienced construction professionals with management experience and a background in construction-related work, especially insurance-related reconstruction. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license, a good driving record, and be able to pass a background check.
