Job description
About the company
Commure is building an AI operating system for healthcare, designed to shape how care is delivered, documented, and paid for. Its platform supports the full patient-care journey with ambient AI and dictation tools that reduce documentation work, intelligent agents that automate patient and revenue operations, and autonomous revenue cycle management that handles billions of claims on one AI-native system connected to more than 60 EHRs.
The company is tackling a healthcare administrative burden valued at $1 trillion. It currently serves more than 500,000 clinicians at over 500 healthcare organizations, processes over $25B in annual claims, and supports more than 200 million patient interactions. Recent milestones include a $70M funding round at a $7B valuation, placement on the Fortune Future 50 list, and recognition in the 2026 AI Breakthrough Awards as Overall NLP Company of the Year.
Commure emphasizes working directly with clinicians, moving quickly, shipping frequently, and owning work end-to-end from concept to production.
Role overview
The Director of Compliance will design, lead, and continuously evaluate the company’s corporate compliance program. The position is intended to strengthen a culture of integrity and help ensure adherence to the many laws, regulations, and standards that apply to health technology. The role operates independently and objectively, reviewing compliance matters across the organization and overseeing systems that support compliance with healthcare laws, privacy obligations, and internal policies, including the Code of Conduct.
The position reports to the Chief Legal Officer and has a dotted-line reporting relationship to the Board of Directors, which supports independence and authority. The role also acts as a trusted advisor to senior leadership and a guidance resource for employees on ethics and compliant business practices.
Key responsibilities
- Lead by example while reinforcing the company’s mission, vision, and values through day-to-day decisions and leadership behavior.
- Chair the Corporate Compliance Committee and ensure it meets regularly with representation from Legal, Human Resources, Engineering, Product, Security, and Sales.
- Create, maintain, and improve compliance policies, procedures, and internal controls designed to prevent and detect illegal, unethical, or improper conduct, with particular attention to health tech risks.
- Run recurring enterprise-wide risk assessments covering areas such as HIPAA/HITECH, data protection, the Anti-Kickback Statute, Stark Law, information blocking, and FDA rules for Software as a Medical Device.
- Design, implement, and follow up on corrective action plans to address identified compliance gaps and reduce the chance of repeat issues.
- Build and execute an annual compliance work plan based on risk findings, including focused auditing and monitoring efforts.
- Prepare compliance metrics and data insights for senior leaders and the Board’s Audit Committee, including indicators that may reveal fraud, waste, abuse, or unusual patterns.
- Oversee the development and delivery of training and educational content for employees, executives, board members, and key vendors, tailored to Commure’s business model.
- Manage compliance reporting channels, including the hotline, so employees and stakeholders have a confidential way to raise concerns.
- Continuously measure the effectiveness of the compliance program and drive improvements over time.
- Stay current on changes in healthcare regulation and advise the business on how new requirements may affect operations.
- Partner with senior management to strengthen “tone at the top,” embed compliance into everyday work, and assess employee performance related to compliance expectations.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree is required.
- A Juris Doctorate or a relevant master’s degree such as an MBA or MHA is strongly preferred.
- Healthcare compliance certification such as CHC is highly preferred.
- 6 to 10 years of experience in healthcare regulatory and compliance work, including leadership experience, ideally in Health IT, SaaS, or a medical device environment.
- Proven track record of building and rolling out compliance policies, procedures, and training programs.
- Deep knowledge of the U.S. healthcare regulatory environment, especially HIPAA, HITECH, the Anti-Kickback Statute, and state or federal privacy laws such as CCPA/CPRA.
- Experience with FDA requirements for digital health products or SaMD, and with the ONC Cures Act Final Rule, including information blocking and interoperability, is a major advantage.
- Strong leadership ability with a talent for influencing and motivating others.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain complex regulations to different audiences.
- Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to work collaboratively across all levels of the organization.
- Solid organizational and strategic planning capabilities.
- Commitment to teamwork and continuous quality improvement.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Comfort working in a fast-moving, innovative technology environment.
