Job description
About the Company
Commure is developing an AI operating system for healthcare that underpins how care is delivered, documented, and reimbursed. Its platform covers the full patient-care journey with ambient AI and dictation tools that reduce documentation work at the point of care, intelligent agents that automate clinical and revenue processes, and autonomous revenue cycle management that processes billions of claims on a single AI-native platform connected to more than 60 EHR systems.
The company addresses a healthcare administrative burden estimated at $1 trillion and supports more than 500,000 clinicians across 500+ healthcare organizations in the United States. It handles over $25B in annual claims and more than 200 million patient interactions. A recent $70M funding round at a $7B valuation, plus recognition on the Fortune Future 50 list and the 2026 AI Breakthrough Awards for Overall NLP Company of the Year, reflects strong market confidence.
Commure emphasizes direct collaboration with clinicians, rapid shipping, and full ownership from early ideation through production. The organization is positioned around high-impact, high-accountability work in a fast-moving healthcare technology environment.
Role Overview
The Director of Compliance will own the design, oversight, and monitoring of Commure’s corporate compliance program. The position is intended to strengthen a culture of integrity while ensuring adherence to the broad set of laws, regulations, and standards that apply to the health IT sector. The role operates independently, evaluates compliance matters across the business, and helps ensure that healthcare laws, privacy requirements, and internal policies such as the Code of Conduct are consistently followed.
This leader reports to the Chief Legal Officer and has a dotted-line reporting relationship to the Board of Directors to preserve independence and authority. The position also serves as a trusted advisor to senior leadership and a resource for employees on ethics and compliant business practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead in a way that reflects Commure’s mission, vision, and values in everyday decisions and management practices.
- Chair the Corporate Compliance Committee and ensure it meets regularly with cross-functional participation from Legal, Human Resources, Engineering, Product, Security, and Sales.
- Build, roll out, and maintain compliance policies, procedures, and controls aimed at preventing and identifying illegal, unethical, or improper conduct, especially in health IT-related areas.
- Run recurring, broad risk assessments to uncover compliance exposure tied to HIPAA/HITECH, data security, the Anti-Kickback Statute, Stark Law, information blocking, and FDA requirements for Software as a Medical Device.
- Create and manage corrective action plans to address compliance gaps and reduce the chance of repeat issues.
- Set up and execute an annual compliance work plan informed by risk findings, including focused audit and monitoring efforts.
- Prepare compliance reporting, metrics, and analytics for senior leadership and the Board’s Audit Committee, with attention to fraud, waste, abuse, and unusual patterns.
- Design and deliver compliance training and educational content for employees, executives, board members, and important vendors, tailored to Commure’s business model and practical use cases.
- Oversee communication channels such as the compliance hotline so people can raise concerns safely and anonymously.
- Track the health of the compliance program continuously and introduce improvements when gaps or opportunities are identified.
- Stay current on changes in healthcare regulation and advise the business on how new requirements may affect operations.
- Partner with senior management to reinforce ethical leadership from the top, embed compliance into daily operations, and evaluate compliance-related employee performance.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree is required; a JD or a relevant master’s degree such as an MBA or MHA is strongly preferred.
- Healthcare compliance certification such as CHC is highly preferred.
- At least 6 to 10 years of experience in healthcare regulatory and compliance work, including leadership experience, ideally in Health IT, SaaS, or a medical device organization.
- Demonstrated success in creating and implementing compliance policies, procedures, and training programs.
- Deep understanding of the U.S. healthcare regulatory environment, including HIPAA, HITECH, the Anti-Kickback Statute, and state/federal privacy laws such as CCPA and CPRA.
- Experience with FDA expectations for digital health products or software as a medical device, as well as the ONC Cures Act Final Rule, is a strong advantage.
- Strong leadership presence with the ability to influence, motivate, and guide others effectively.
- Excellent spoken and written communication skills, including the ability to explain complex regulatory topics to different audiences.
- Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to work across all levels of an organization.
- Well-developed organization and strategic planning capabilities.
- Commitment to teamwork and continuous quality improvement.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving ability.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, innovation-driven technology environment.
- Official communications will only come from email addresses ending in @commure.com; any other domain should be treated as unaffiliated.
- Employees must follow the organization’s information security requirements, including protecting assets from unauthorized access, disclosure, modification, destruction, or interference, and reporting confirmed or potential security events or risks. These obligations must be acknowledged at hire and annually thereafter.
