Job description

Overview

A1R is a premier sports and talent management agency at the forefront of professional sports, NIL, branding, and athlete representation. With a proven track record of securing over eight figures in NIL deals, A1R is expanding its basketball division and seeks a seasoned Director of Basketball Operations. This leadership role offers commission-based compensation with generous splits, unlimited earning potential, and equity opportunities, functioning as an independent contractor position.

Role Summary

The Director will spearhead and grow the basketball operations division, ideally suited for an NBPA-certified agent or a senior executive possessing a current client roster or the ability to rapidly build one. Responsibilities encompass full management of basketball clients from recruitment and representation through contract handling and strategic career development.

Primary Duties

  • Recruit, sign, and manage clients spanning NBA, G League, international leagues, and draft prospects.
  • Oversee all basketball-related operations and strategic initiatives within the company.
  • Maintain strong client relationships, devise career progression plans, and develop off-court opportunities like endorsements, NIL, and brand deals.
  • Work collaboratively with leadership, marketing, and legal departments to enhance client value.
  • Explore and initiate new basketball-related business ventures both domestically and abroad.
  • Act as the main contact for basketball clients and relevant stakeholders.
  • Expand the basketball division and consider hiring additional staff or agents.

Qualifications

  • Current NBPA certification or equivalent experience within collegiate/professional basketball operations or coaching.
  • Five to ten years in basketball operations encompassing recruiting, player management, or similar roles.
  • Possession of an existing basketball client portfolio or proven capacity to establish one swiftly.
  • Robust network throughout the basketball industry including teams, scouts, executives, and international clubs.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of player contracts, league regulations, and agent compliance.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit comfortable with a commission-only compensation framework.
  • Exemplary integrity, professionalism, and strategic long-term vision.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Commission-based remuneration with substantial splits.
  • Unlimited financial upside contingent on performance.
  • Potential equity stake aligned with long-term growth.
  • Complete operational support including marketing, legal, NIL, and branding services from A1R.

Why Join A1R?

  • Opportunity to lead and autonomously grow a basketball division.
  • Unrestricted earning and advancement prospects.
  • Chance to build a meaningful organization rather than solely managing clients.
  • Equity participation fostering aligned interests over time.
