Position Overview

The Director of Athletic Live Events & Fan Experience position at George Mason Athletics involves leading the development and execution of engaging, dynamic in-venue experiences for athletics competitions and major events. This full-time role stationed in Fairfax, Virginia, demands overseeing game-day production with the goal of enhancing fan involvement, elevating brand perception, and supporting both attendance and revenue growth.

Department Information

George Mason Athletics serves 500 student-athletes competing in 22 NCAA Division I sports, known for numerous conference and NCAA championship achievements. The department prioritizes student-athlete experience, competition, resources, storytelling, and championship culture.

Primary Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor graduate assistants and student staff, coordinating a team of over 30 personnel involved in game-day presentation.
• Collaborate with marketing and operations to integrate strategic campaigns and manage budgets related to promotions and digital content.
• Act as the chief producer for all athletics game-day experiences, including scripting, show flow, and entertainment elements across sports.
• Enhance fan engagement through coordinated pregame and in-game entertainment, such as videoboard content, halftime shows, music contests, and giveaways.
• Maintain consistency in tone and brand presence during events, making adjustments based on fan feedback and attendance patterns.
• Support in-venue revenue activities by developing experiential packages like VIP and birthday offerings, promoting premium seats, and partnering with concessions and merchandising.
• Craft fan communication materials, including "Know Before You Go" guides, and facilitate seamless event experiences through coordinated messaging across email, social media, and venue platforms.
• Work with student and spirit groups to boost student engagement and enhance in-venue energy during games.
• Coordinate event logistics with facilities and vendors, ensuring smooth event operations and timely staffing.
• Oversee cheer and dance team operations including regulation compliance, travel plans, equipment orders, and mascot coordination.
• Manage additional athletic/non-game events such as spirit rallies and team send-offs as assigned.

Qualifications

• Master's degree preferred or equivalent combination of bachelor’s degree and relevant experience.
• Proven expertise in sports marketing, game day event promotions, and digital/social media strategies.
• In-depth knowledge of NCAA, conference, and state regulations, and ability to comply fully.
• Strong communication, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
• Experience supervising staff and working collaboratively with diverse groups.
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, and desktop publishing applications.
• Ability to operate under pressure, handle multiple priorities, and maintain a collaborative team environment.
• Valid driver’s license meeting George Mason University’s vehicle policy requirements, with a favorable Motor Vehicle Report.

Preferred Skills

• Master's degree in related field.
• Experience with in-game basketball production and Daktronics Show Control software.
• Demonstrated ability to drive revenue growth and enhance event attendance.
