Director of Academics and Schools Management

Role Overview

The Director of Academics and Schools Management is a senior leader responsible for guiding and overseeing approximately 18 schools within a school-based management framework. The position involves collaborating with another Director to maintain consistency, coherence, and excellence in implementing district strategies and priorities.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer supervision and evaluation of principals and assistant principals in assigned schools.
• Define expectations for school autonomy within district-established boundaries and ensure accountability for academic results, student experience, and operational performance.
• Support development and execution of School Improvement Plans aligned with district goals.
• Lead execution of standards-based, grade-level instruction and support instructional leadership including school walkthroughs, professional learning communities, and culturally responsive methods.
• Oversee Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), ensuring integration of academic, behavioral, and social-emotional interventions.
• Enhance leadership development through training programs focused on instructional leadership, data-driven decision-making, and systems design.
• Develop and refine systems and structures for school-based management, balancing autonomy with uniform district requirements.
• Utilize data dashboards and continuous improvement cycles to monitor progress and guide resource allocation.
• Facilitate collaboration between schools and district departments, partners, and the community to strengthen support systems.
• Manage operational tasks including staffing, compliance, and complex issue resolution within schools.

Required Expertise and Qualifications

• Possess a Master's degree (Doctorate preferred) and Illinois Professional Educator License with a General Administrative/Principal endorsement.
• Have 3–5 years experience in a school leadership role such as principal and at least 3 years in instructional or district leadership.
• Proven record in improving student outcomes at scale.
• Deep knowledge of instructional leadership, school improvement, MTSS, adult learning, data analysis, and leadership in complex environments.

Additional Information

Two Directors share oversight responsibilities to ensure system-wide alignment and success characterized by strong school systems, leadership development, and improved student results. This position requires travel among school sites and community organizations within the district.

Supervisory Expectations

Responsible for hiring, training, performance appraisal, discipline, and overall management of assigned school leaders and their teams according to district goals and legal requirements.

Compensation and Benefits (2026-2027)

Salary range: $125,000 to $145,000 (excluding Teachers Retirement System benefits).
