Job description
Role overview
ABC Hobart is seeking an experienced digital journalist to become part of a compact team of content creators in Hobart, Tasmania. This is a continuing full-time position based onsite in Hobart, with plenty of opportunity to get out into the city and surrounding community in search of stories.
Compensation
The salary for this role is between $91,000 and $98,000 per year. The package also includes superannuation at 15.4% into the ABC nominated fund.
What you’ll do
- Spot compelling story leads from daily life, talkback, SMS, and social media, then turn them into original, high-quality news and feature content.
- Adapt broadcast stories into digital-first versions for the region.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with community organisations, especially in areas that receive less ABC coverage, using community events, councils, social channels, and online forums to generate ideas and find contributors.
What you’ll bring
The ideal candidate enjoys being out in the field, developing community contacts, and telling stories that reflect a wide range of backgrounds and viewpoints. Strong editorial judgement, the ability to work under pressure, and confidence in creating original local journalism are essential.
- Highly developed editorial capability, including the ability to gather and assess information, make sound judgement calls, meet tight deadlines, and consistently produce original local stories.
- Solid experience in cross-platform content creation, with strong capability using multimedia editing and production tools.
- Comfort working both within a small team and independently when required.
