About the Role

Stony Brook University Libraries seek a Digital Curator as a PRODiG+ postdoctoral fellow, focusing on advancing strategic digital projects with an emphasis on ADA-compliant access. This full-time, 12-month lecturer-level, non-tenure-track faculty position begins in Fall 2026 with a two-year appointment, earning $80,000 annually plus benefits. The position offers a mentored research environment and potential transition to tenure-track faculty after successful evaluation.

The curator will lead the university's web archiving program, determine collection priorities, and implement sustainable access strategies documenting institutional and community history. Working collaboratively across campus, this role supports innovative teaching and research by managing digital and digitized collections and applying computational and AI methods to enhance digital resource engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage digital content workflows, including digitization, metadata creation, accessibility, and ongoing maintenance.
  • Create interpretive and contextual content to enhance discovery and engagement with digital assets.
  • Assess user experience and accessibility, ensuring compliance with ADA standards for digital and instructional materials.
  • Lead and coordinate web archiving efforts, including setting collection priorities, appraisal criteria, and web capture tools.
  • Collaborate with faculty in instructional design by integrating digital primary sources into teaching and creating accessible tutorials.
  • Deliver reference and research support focused on digital collections while aiding physical collection processing and digitization preparation.
  • Center diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) principles in curation and pedagogy, employing inclusive metadata and fostering outreach to broaden representation.
  • Engage in research on emerging digital curation methods, participate in professional development, and contribute scholarly work in the field.

Qualifications

  • Required: Master's, PhD, or advanced degree (including foreign equivalents), or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Experience working in special collections, archives, or digital content environments.
  • Demonstrated engagement with diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives through academic, professional, or community activities.
  • Authorization to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship.
  • Preferred: Coursework in archives or library science, training or teaching experience in related environments, hands-on web archiving expertise, familiarity with computational/AI techniques applied to digital collections, research or professional engagement evidence, interdisciplinary collaboration aptitude, and knowledge of ADA accessibility standards and inclusive digital practices.
