Curator/Archivist - PRODiG+ Fellow at Stony Brook University Libraries

Position Overview

Stony Brook University is recruiting a PRODiG+ fellow in the University Libraries, specifically within the Special Collections and University Archives department. This full-time, 12-month appointment at the lecturer level begins in Fall 2026 and is non-tenure-track, with a two-year term at an annual salary of $80,000 plus benefits. After successful evaluation, the fellow may transition to tenure-track status. This role focuses on stewardship, organization, preservation, promotion, and teaching related to diverse archival and special collections, advancing inclusive pedagogy, research, and community outreach.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and lead instructional sessions featuring primary sources and archival materials for undergraduate and graduate courses.
• Collaborate with faculty to integrate archives into course curricula, assignments, and learning objectives.
• Organize workshops and outreach efforts to enhance archival literacy and research skills.
• Provide reference and research assistance for students, faculty, and external researchers both in-person and remotely.
• Create accessible online educational materials catering to diverse learning preferences.
• Support reading room functions and collection access.
• Assist with physical and digital collection arrangement, description, acquisitions, exhibitions, and development.
• Contribute to interpretive projects such as guides, web content, and digital exhibits.
• Participate in grant writing and management.
• Engage in digital curation activities including digitization, metadata creation, and exploration of computational methods for archival data.
• Ensure proper handling and preservation of archival materials.
• Conduct independent and collaborative research focusing on university collections and archives.
• Engage professionally through conferences, workshops, and organizational participation.

Required Qualifications

• Relevant master's degree, PhD, or equivalent experience.
• Experience in special collections, archives, or digital content environments with familiarity in archival principles and metadata standards.
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through personal, academic, or work experience.
• Eligibility to work in the US without visa sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

• Academic coursework in archives or library science.
• Experience arranging and describing archival and physical collections according to professional standards.
• Instruction or training background in archival or cultural heritage contexts.
• Knowledge of computational or AI approaches applied to digital archival collections.
• Evidence of scholarly research or professional engagement.
• Ability or potential for interdisciplinary collaboration.
• Technical skills related to ADA compliance and digital accessibility.
