Role summary

The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority is hiring a Diet Aide for Deer Lodge Centre in Winnipeg. This casual, in-person position supports patient meal service in the Dietary / Nutrition and Food Services unit. The role sits in the Clinical Support stream and is covered by the CUPE union.

Compensation

The pay scale for this role is $20.352, $20.949, $21.562, $22.192, and $22.842.

What you will do

  • Support the preparation, assembly, and delivery of patient meals while following safe food-handling procedures.
  • Build meal trays carefully according to the prescribed portions and tray tickets.
  • Prepare and portion food items based on tallies, prep charts, and nourishment labels.
  • Restock food and supplies in the assigned service areas.
  • Wash, sanitize, and maintain equipment, small wares, and work areas.
  • Label and transport carts to the appropriate locations.
  • Take part in quality assurance activities.

What you need

  • Prior experience working in food service.
  • Minimum Grade 10 under Manitoba standards.
  • A mix of education and related experience may be accepted.
  • Valid Food Handler's certificate.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English clearly enough to follow both verbal and written instructions.

Physical and workplace requirements

  • Strength demands are rated medium, with handling requirements from 20 to 45 lbs; most lifting falls between 10 and 20 lbs.
  • The work involves bending, gripping, lifting, pushing, pulling, and standing for long periods.
  • Work may take place in cold conditions of 3-10 degrees or in warm environments.
  • Exposure to chemical cleaning products is part of the role.
  • You should be able to adjust to changing tasks, maintain accurate hand-eye coordination, and use both hands with manual dexterity.
  • You need to work well both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, time-sensitive setting.

Other conditions

  • A current satisfactory Criminal Records Check, including Vulnerable Sector Search, is required.
  • A Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check are also conditions of employment.
  • The successful candidate is responsible for any related service charges.
  • A security check is considered current only if it was obtained within six months before the start of employment.
  • Employees cannot hold multiple positions across the WRHA legal entity if those roles add up to more than 1.0 EFT.
  • The WRHA legal entity includes Churchill Health Centre, Deer Lodge Centre, Golden Door Geriatric Centre, Golden West Centennial Lodge, Grace Hospital, Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg, Pan Am Clinic, River Park Gardens, Victoria General Hospital, WRHA corporate programs, and WRHA community health services.
