About the role
Shared Health supports patient-focused clinical and preventive services across Manitoba and also provides province-wide health services along with centralized administrative and business support for health organizations. This opening is for a Medical Laboratory Assistant at Shared Health - Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg.
Role summary
Reporting to the Charge Technologist, or another designated lead, the Medical Laboratory Assistant helps the laboratory manage specimen triage, accessioning, and processing. The role may also include selected basic routine tasks in line with established procedures and carrying out phlebotomy duties as outlined in department policy. The position is expected to support a safe workplace, follow professional and provincial requirements, uphold quality assurance practices, and work to accreditation standards. All duties must align with Shared Health’s mission and values, internal policies and procedures, and all applicable laws.

Experience and education
Previous directly related experience is preferred. A completed Grade 12 education, or an equivalent recognized under Manitoba standards, is required. Completion of a Medical Laboratory Assistant training program is preferred. CSMLS Medical Laboratory Assistant certification is also preferred.
Skills and abilities
The position calls for comfort working in a Windows-based computer environment and familiarity with Microsoft Office is preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology, sterile techniques, and routine practices is an asset. Strong keyboarding speed, basic math skills, accurate following of oral and written instructions, and attention to detail are important. The role also requires effective English communication, the ability to work independently or as part of a team, the capacity to perform under pressure, and strict confidentiality. French and English fluency may be required. Candidates must also be able to carry out the duties described for the role.
