Job Overview

The role involves organizing and overseeing testing facilities to analyze raw materials, in-process materials, and finished products to ensure the manufacture of quality goods. It also includes coordinating product development activities and managing environmental compliance through liaison with internal plant teams and external bodies.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, direct, and supervise testing of incoming and finished products, ensuring quality standards are met and taking corrective actions when deviations occur.
• Lead development projects aligned with customer needs or cost-effective solutions, coordinating laboratory and plant trials with vendors and suppliers.
• Drive productivity enhancements aimed at reducing costs and saving time through better manpower planning, modernized analytical methods, and process computerization.
• Coordinate implementation of World Class Manufacturing (WCM) initiatives and certified management systems such as QMS, EMS, OH&S, and SA 8000 to promote safety and a healthy work environment.
• Ensure close liaison with environmental statutory authorities for consents, compliance reports, and legal requirements, maintaining efficient operation of the Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) at all times.
• Provide guidance and coordination to other company units, both domestically and internationally, for pollution-related matters including consents for expansions and new projects.
• Stay informed about environmental laws, technological advancements in treatment methods, and manage related documentation and audits.

Challenges

• Managing a 50-year-old plant with complex processes and low workmen literacy while enhancing product quality and pollution control.
• Adapting to increasingly stringent environmental regulations and handling higher effluent concentrations due to reduced water use.

Additional Information

• Responsible for ensuring compliance with all legal environmental requirements and maintaining communication with pollution control boards.
• Coordinate studies and implementation plans such as Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and evaluate gas treatment technologies to improve plant performance and cost efficiency.
