About Empire
Empire is an international experiential production company that delivers award-winning live events, broadcasts, and immersive brand experiences across the globe. With offices in New York, Los Angeles, and Tokyo, the team has produced work in more than 100 countries for corporations, governments, nonprofits, brands, and creators.
From major live productions to digital experiences and large-scale installations, Empire builds memorable moments that engage audiences and create lasting impact.
The company is looking for an experienced, highly creative designer based in New York or Los Angeles to craft event proposals and business development presentations for a broad range of projects.
The Role
This is a freelance creative design opportunity for someone with a background in live events, experiential marketing, hospitality, or event production. The selected designer will support business development work on a project-by-project basis, turning strategic ideas, event concepts, and client needs into persuasive proposal decks and presentations.
The position combines presentation design, creative concept development, rendering support, and a solid understanding of event settings and attendee experience. Working alongside leadership, creative, strategy, and business development teams, you will help create high-impact pitch materials that communicate the agency’s vision, set it apart, and help drive new business.
Key Responsibilities
- Create visually compelling proposal decks, pitch presentations, and other business development collateral.
- Build custom presentations in PowerPoint, Keynote, or Google Slides that clearly express complex ideas and event concepts.
- Develop reusable presentation templates and visual systems that match agency and client brand standards.
- Prepare mood boards, inspiration decks, and visual stories for events, conferences, incentive programs, brand activations, and experiential campaigns.
- Turn event strategy into strong visual ideas, including stage concepts, scenic direction, décor, branding, and attendee journey elements.
- Research and curate imagery, references, and creative inspiration to strengthen proposal storytelling.
- Partner with business development, strategy, and production teams to collect information and organize it into convincing presentations.
- Make sure the visual design and written message work together to support a clear client narrative.
- Break down complex ideas into easy-to-follow, engaging visual communication.
- Preserve consistency with agency and client brand guidelines while improving the overall creative quality of materials.
- Apply best practices in layout, typography, color usage, and visual hierarchy.
- Handle several projects at once and deliver polished work within short timelines.
- Incorporate stakeholder feedback quickly and accurately.
- Work independently while maintaining strong communication across cross-functional teams.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience in graphic design, presentation design, experiential marketing, event production, hospitality, or a similar creative discipline.
- A strong portfolio that demonstrates proposal design, presentation development, event concepts, and visual storytelling.
- Advanced ability in PowerPoint, Keynote, and Google Slides.
- Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
- Experience creating client-facing presentations and business development materials.
- Comfort with live events, environmental design, staging, scenic design, and experiential marketing.
- Strong eye for layout, typography, branding, and visual communication.
- Excellent organization, communication, and collaboration abilities.
- Capability to perform well in a fast-paced, deadline-heavy environment.
Preferred Experience
- Background in agency work, event production, experiential marketing, or hospitality.
- Experience contributing to RFP responses and competitive pitch efforts.
- Understanding of fabrication, scenic production, environmental design, and event logistics.
- Ability to use rendering tools such as SketchUp, Cinema 4D, or Vectorworks.
- Experience with AI-assisted design tools and visual concepting platforms.
Engagement Details
- Freelance and contract engagement.
- Project-based work with flexible scheduling.
- Remote-friendly setup.
- Potential for continued collaboration depending on project demand and performance.
Compensation
