Role Overview and Location Requirements
This is a full-time position based at our San Francisco office in the Presidio, requiring attendance five days a week. Candidates must already be located in the Bay Area or be willing to relocate prior to starting. Sauna represents an AI coworker that learns and adapts to your work habits, gaining autonomy over tasks and managing extensive workloads while you oversee the final taste and decisions. The Wordware team, about 20 members strong and supported by leading investors including Spark Capital, Felicis, and Y Combinator with a $30M seed fund (the largest in Y Combinator's history), operates out of their San Francisco office near the Golden Gate Bridge. The team is passionate and driven, motivated by tangible daily outcomes.
Position Summary
We seek a Designer responsible for shaping Sauna's visual identity, leading the creation of brand assets and ensuring pixel-perfect interface elements for user experiences. This role entails transforming product team user flows into finely crafted visual designs covering typography, color, spacing, and interactive elements. The position reports directly to the CEO and Head of Product and is tailored for candidates with over three years of professional design experience in quality-driven companies.
Key Responsibilities
- Convert user flows into precise, production-ready Figma designs.
- Collaborate closely with product designers and engineers to ensure perfect visual consistency across platforms.
- Develop and sustain brand guidelines, including typography, color palettes, iconography, and overall visual language.
- Design outward-facing brand materials like websites, social media content, launch campaigns, and presentations.
- Maintain visual harmony across product platforms such as web, mobile, and email.
- Operate with agility to iterate designs rapidly within hours.
Candidate Profile
- Possess at least three years of visual design experience with a portfolio demonstrating attention to pixel-level detail.
- Highly proficient in Figma for rapid prototyping and specification.
- Distinguish effectively between design purpose and artistic expression, prioritizing user objectives.
- Exhibit strong brand sensibilities capable of building comprehensive visual systems from direction.
- Execute design briefs effectively without needing to lead strategy development.
- Maintain clean, organized design files with proper naming conventions and sustainable design systems.
Desirable but Not Required Skills
- Experience working at fast-moving startups delivering polished consumer products.
- Skills in motion design tools such as Figma prototyping, Lottie animations, and After Effects.
- Background in designing for both product interfaces and brand identities within the same organization.
- A distinctive personal aesthetic evident in portfolio work beyond generic minimal styles.
- Integration of AI tools like Figma AI and code assistants in the design workflow.
- Portfolio showcasing brand projects including logos, visual identities, and design systems.
Compensation and Benefits
The base salary for this role ranges from $140,000 to $220,000 annually, supplemented with meaningful equity in an early-stage company. Benefits include health and dental coverage, 401(k) plan, generous paid time off, gym allowance, and provided lunches.
