Overview

The Design Director plays a pivotal role in spearheading design excellence within the firm, ensuring superior quality and innovation across multidisciplinary teams. This leadership position also involves active participation in marketing efforts and business development to promote the firm’s vision and client-focused design philosophy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Champion the pursuit of top-quality, creative design solutions aligned with client objectives and vision.
  • Advocate for client-centric design strategies, processes, and implementation initiatives consistent with the company's mission.
  • Lead, manage, and mentor a team of designers to maintain high design standards and consistency.
  • Oversee and guide design presentations, monitor project design progress, and provide strategic design direction to uphold firmwide quality and coherence.
  • Possess comprehensive expertise in architectural practice encompassing design, construction materials, building techniques, interdisciplinary engineering integration, building codes, and cost considerations.
  • Act as a thought leader within the design community by engaging with professional bodies, conducting outreach, and mentoring design personnel.
  • Collaborate with firmwide design and thought leaders to foster a progressive design culture and implement innovative ideas that elevate firm practices.
  • Supervise the adoption and enhancement of firmwide technologies to improve design workflows and results.
  • Contribute to the development and enforcement of design guidelines and standards across the firm.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Minimum of 15 years of professional experience in architectural design.
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture as a baseline educational requirement.
  • Valid registration as a Registered Architect with NCARB certification.
  • LEED Accredited Professional credential is preferred.
  • Experience in corporate, educational, and/or healthcare sectors is advantageous.
  • Strong dedication to delivering excellent customer service.
  • Proven ability to effectively manage multiple projects under pressure and meet stringent deadlines.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication capabilities.
  • Familiarity with advanced design software and technologies including REVIT, Rhino, SketchUp, and emerging tools like Generative AI.
  • Comfortable interfacing with senior management, external clients, and vendors.
  • Quality-focused and self-driven professional attitude.
