Job description

Role Overview

Seed Heritage is looking for a highly organised and creatively driven Design Assistant to help deliver the full product development journey for its bags and soft accessories category. Working alongside the Designer, this position supports seasonal collections from the first concept and technical build stage through sampling, range development, and readiness for production.

This opportunity suits someone who enjoys a busy fashion environment, brings strong technical design skills, and is comfortable balancing creative work with hands-on coordination and administration.

Key Duties

  • Produce polished concept sketches and technical artwork using Adobe Illustrator.
  • Build and keep seasonal tech packs and style records up to date.
  • Assist with product development tasks such as proto samples, lab dip coordination, and supplier follow-up.
  • Update product information in D365 while working with the Design and Admin teams.
  • Support range and buying meetings by organising samples, mood boards, imagery, and supporting documents.
  • Track work in progress, sample movement, and critical path milestones.
  • Coordinate seasonal sample management across marketing, PR, campaign, and production needs.
  • Help with sample approvals, costing details, and product feedback in partnership with the Designer and Buyer.
  • Contribute to identifying top and underperforming products through sales and trade reviews.
  • Keep samples tidy, accessible, and ready for shoots and presentations.
  • Take part in weekly production and trade meetings.

Candidate Profile

The ideal applicant has a tertiary qualification, or equivalent experience, in Fashion Design, Product Design, or a closely related area. A minimum of 3 years' experience in a Design Assistant, Buying Assistant, or comparable role is expected, along with direct experience in bags design.

Strong Adobe Illustrator ability is essential, and candidates should also be confident with hand sketching, Adobe Creative Suite, and basic to intermediate Microsoft Office tools. A solid understanding of product development, textiles, and print or graphic creation is important, as is excellent attention to detail, strong time management, and the ability to juggle several priorities in a fast-moving setting.

Work Arrangement

This is an on-site position based at the St Kilda Road offices, with a five-day in-office schedule each week.
