Deputy Manager - Fire & Safety

About the Role

Adani Power Limited seeks a skilled and proactive Deputy Manager - Fire & Safety to enhance fire prevention, emergency readiness, occupational safety, and statutory compliance at the Pirpainti Thermal Power Project. This position involves overseeing the development and execution of comprehensive fire protection systems, emergency response plans, and robust safety management throughout the construction, commissioning, and operation phases.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure the installation, maintenance, and effective operation of fire protection systems throughout plant facilities.
• Regularly inspect and verify the readiness of fire water networks, hydrants, sprinklers, firefighting pumps, foam systems, and alarm systems.
• Periodically audit firefighting equipment and emergency response resources.
• Assess and validate fire safety criteria during engineering, construction, and commissioning processes.
• Formulate and deploy fire prevention strategies to mitigate hazard risks.
• Conduct Fire Risk Assessments (FRA) to identify critical fire hazards.
• Prepare and update fire emergency response protocols, evacuation plans, and firefighting procedures.
• Ensure adherence to National Building Code, Factory Act, Explosives and Petroleum Rules, and related regulations.
• Liaise with local fire departments and emergency agencies to coordinate efforts.
• Oversee safety compliance during civil, mechanical, electrical, structural, and commissioning activities.
• Implement Permit-to-Work systems for high-risk tasks like hot work, confined spaces, excavation, lifting, and working at heights.
• Carry out Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA) for all project operations.
• Monitor contractor adherence to fire safety and occupational standards.
• Lead emergency response teams during fire and industrial emergencies.
• Organize and execute fire drills, evacuation rehearsals, and disaster simulation exercises.
• Maintain training and operational readiness of firefighting staff and emergency equipment.
• Support incident command and coordination with external agencies during emergencies.
• Investigate fire incidents, near misses, and hazards; perform root cause analyses and recommend corrective measures.
• Ensure prompt completion of corrective actions following safety audits and inspections.
• Maintain statutory reporting and regulatory compliance.
• Develop and deliver fire safety training, induction programs, toolbox talks, and awareness campaigns for staff and contractors.
• Enhance fire safety competencies across the workforce through continuous education and drills.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Fire, Chemical, or Industrial Safety) from a recognized university.
• 4 to 8 years of experience in fire and safety management within sectors such as thermal power plants, heavy industries, refineries, petrochemical facilities, manufacturing, or infrastructure projects.
• Experience with greenfield thermal power project construction and commissioning is highly advantageous.
