Role Overview

The Deputy General Manager will lead the Sales and Marketing functions within the business development division to drive growth and achieve revenue targets through strategic customer and partner relationship management, operational coordination, and commercial control.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage relationships with Shipping Lines and NVOCCs as the primary point of contact.
  • Oversee daily operational and commercial communications ensuring service reliability and volume continuity.
  • Support senior leadership to reinforce long-term partnerships with carriers and NVOCCs.
  • Coordinate container supply by working closely with Shipping Lines to match empty container availability to customer and NVOCC demand.
  • Achieve assigned monthly TEU and volume targets with carriers and NVOCCs.
  • Monitor volume performance by carrier and NVOCC and report variances.
  • Manage and ensure effective opening and functioning of Bill of Lading points complying with relevant SOPs.
  • Collaborate with finance for accurate billing processes, monitor receivables, and ensure timely collections in line with commercial agreements.
  • Handle operational and commercial disputes related to container availability, documentation issues, demurrage, detention, and billing discrepancies promptly to minimize disruptions.
  • Provide regular reports on shipment volumes, container use, billing status, and collections, and offer suggestions for process improvement.

Performance Metrics

  • Meeting or exceeding assigned volume targets for Shipping Lines and NVOCCs.
  • Ensuring timely availability of empty containers aligned with demands.
  • Maintaining prompt billing and collections with minimal overdue payments.
  • Reducing disputes and improving resolution response times.
  • Ensuring seamless operations and stakeholder satisfaction.

Qualification & Experience

  • Graduate degree (regular program) from a recognized university is compulsory.
  • MBA in Sales & Marketing, Shipping, Logistics, or Supply Chain Management is preferred.
  • At least 5 to 7 years of relevant experience in logistics, shipping, or EXIM sectors.
  • Proven expertise working with Shipping Lines and/or NVOCCs, including container operations, carrier coordination, volume management, and commercial processes like billing and collections.
  • Experience in environments such as ICD, CFS, Container Depots, Freight Forwarding, or Shipping Lines is advantageous.
