Job description
Role overview
This position is a mid-level finance leadership role within a large apparel or textile manufacturing setup. The person in this role will own product costing, margin analysis, and commercial decision support, while reporting to the General Manager / Head of Costing. The role also supports pricing decisions, controls cost leakage, improves processes, and helps the business make data-backed commercial choices.
Location and reporting
Work location: Gokaldas Exports Limited, Corporate Office, Bangalore. Reporting line: General Manager - Costing.
Experience and education
The role requires 12 to 15 years of relevant experience and a CA or CMA qualification.
Key responsibilities
The selected professional will be responsible for building and validating product-wise cost sheets for styles and orders across buyers and categories. The role involves conducting pre-costing and post-costing reviews, analyzing differences between estimated and actual costs, and spotting leakage areas.
This role also includes working with merchandising and procurement teams on pricing support and margin negotiations, reviewing factory and order-level profitability, and monitoring the gap between costed and actual performance across areas such as fabric consumption, labour efficiency, and overhead absorption.
In addition, the person will collaborate closely with production, sourcing, and industrial engineering teams to improve cost structures and operating efficiency, maintain costing models and standard cost databases, assess capex proposals and ROI, and lead cost-reduction initiatives across raw materials, processes, and supply chain. The role also covers strengthening costing controls and approvals, preparing MIS reports for management, and guiding a small team while coordinating across functions.
Commercial and analytical focus
The position requires the ability to evaluate pricing, cost drivers, and margins with a strong business lens. It also demands the capability to simplify complex cost structures, convert findings into practical actions, and support commercial discussions with buyers and internal stakeholders.
Additional expectations
The candidate should be comfortable handling frequent style changes, evolving buyer requirements, and changing cost inputs. The role also calls for the ability to guide, influence, challenge, and align multiple stakeholders across departments.
Soft skills
Strong commercial judgement, clear communication, cross-functional collaboration, presentation ability, and team mentoring are important for success in this role.
