Role Overview
The Deputy Director of Athletics leads and oversees the day-to-day functioning of the Athletics department under the direction of the Director of Athletics and Recreation. When the Director is unavailable, this role assumes administrative control of the department and acts as the primary decision-maker for athletics operations and sports programming. The position also directly oversees compliance, business operations, student-athlete development, sports medicine, and strength and conditioning.
This leader is expected to strengthen relationships across the campus community, manage special assignments, stay current on NCAA governance updates, and provide oversight to sport administrators and athletics programs.
Key Responsibilities
The role includes leading regular meetings such as weekly executive and senior staff sessions, game operations meetings, sport administrator meetings, and monthly coach meetings.
It also involves managing special projects assigned by the Director of Athletics and Recreation, acting as a sport supervisor to ensure consistent administration, and advising coaches and senior staff on program needs, policies, and procedures.
In the absence of the Director, the Deputy Director functions as the department’s chief operating officer, represents Athletics at meetings and events, and serves on NCAA, Patriot League, campus, and ad hoc working groups when needed.
The position oversees business operations, compliance, student-athlete development, sports medicine, and strength and conditioning, and serves as the lead administrator for team sport oversight.
Another major responsibility is serving as the department’s HR liaison, coordinating with central Human Resources, handling day-to-day personnel matters, supporting onboarding, explaining workplace policies, and acting as the first contact for questions about benefits, payroll, and related employee concerns.
The role also helps process complaints and concerns, supports Board of Trustee Student Success Committee preparation and documentation, and leads hiring searches for coaches and senior administrators.

This is a regular, exempt, full-time position requiring full on-campus presence.
