Dental Assistant - Federal Correctional Facility

About the Role

GLC Government Services is recruiting six Dental Assistants to support dental health services within a Federal Correctional Facility located in Bruceton Mills, WV. This medium-security institution accommodates both female and male adult inmates and includes various components such as the United States Penitentiary (USP), the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI), the Secure Female Facility (SFF), and the Satellite Prison Camp (SPC).

Work Schedule and Compensation

The position offers a compensation rate of $23.38 per hour. Employees are scheduled to work 40 hours weekly, with options for either five 8-hour shifts or four 10-hour shifts from Monday through Friday, excluding Federal Holidays. Operating hours fall between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM and include a 30-minute unpaid lunch break.

Responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive dental assisting services covering all areas of clinical practice, including specialty procedures.
• Prepare treatment rooms, instruments, materials, and medications necessary for dental procedures.
• Efficiently pass dental instruments while maintaining a clear operative area.
• Prepare dental medicaments, impression materials, and pour dental casts.
• Apply and finish dental restorations such as bases and liners.
• Choose suitable tooth shades for composite restorations and dentures.
• Perform intra-operative tasks in line with infection control protocols.
• Take dental X-rays, determine proper radiation exposure, and document findings accurately within electronic medical records.
• Assist patients with dismissal procedures and ensure they understand follow-up care instructions.
• Maintain and support dental equipment; assist in repairs of dental prostheses and appliances.
• Manage inventory by storing and maintaining adequate dental supplies in treatment areas.
• Secure instruments and prevent unauthorized items from remaining in the clinic after hours.
• Complete accurate documentation and assist with audits and record reviews.
• Conduct and interpret quality assurance tests on radiographic techniques as scheduled.
• Safely handle and dispose of hazardous biological waste.
• Perform clerical and administrative duties as assigned.

Candidate Requirements

• At least six months’ experience as a Dental Assistant.
• Completion of a one-year Dental Assistant program accredited by the American Dental Association (ADA).
• Current CPR certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC).
• Preferred completion of a dental radiologic safety course.
• Experience within correctional healthcare settings is advantageous.
• Additional professional education and certifications are considered an asset.
• Physical ability to stand, walk, and bend for periods of 2 to 3 hours continuously.
• Capability to work professionally with diverse inmate populations representing various cultural, regional, racial, and ethnic backgrounds.
