Job description

Job Objective

This role involves collaborating with school faculty, staff, students, parents, and the community to design, execute, and assess a comprehensive developmental guidance and counseling program tailored to the assigned school. The objective is to counsel students on academic, career, personal, and social development while accommodating the needs of special populations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
  • At least two years of experience in teaching or counseling
  • Master’s degree in Counseling is preferred
  • Valid Texas Counseling Certification is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Align with and promote the mission, vision, and values of Harmony Public Schools
  • Act as the primary liaison for college counseling across schools in the district
  • Oversee and support school counselors in developing, implementing, and evaluating comprehensive school guidance and counseling programs
  • Help schedule and share information about curriculum offerings with staff, students, and parents
  • Coordinate and manage activities of the College & Career Success department, including home visits, parent activities, and trips
  • Support and oversee all stakeholders — administrators, staff, students, parents, PTO/PTA committees, community leaders, and higher education institutions — to advance school goals
  • Analyze and evaluate ongoing College & Career programs and provide data reports to administration
  • Meet regularly with designated personnel to evaluate program effectiveness
  • Collaborate with district and campus administrators to manage initiatives like middle-high school transition, internships, certificate programs, scholarships, and senior-alumni transitions
  • Organize alumni gatherings to maintain strong campus alumni networks and foster a positive school community
  • Plan and coordinate major senior activities including graduation events
  • Work with Harmony alumni student organizations (HASO) to support academic, social, and emotional programs for seniors and incoming freshmen during transitions
  • Plan and oversee campus career events such as fairs, workshops, and talks for students and parents
  • Manage Summer Melt Prevention Program and Fall College Check-Ins for all high school graduates
  • Collaborate with other counseling service departments to ensure cohesive program implementation
  • Handle counseling records and information coordination
  • Coordinate school college/university visit trips
  • Attend ARD and LPAC meetings
  • Perform other assigned duties as necessary

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal abilities
  • Effective written and oral communication skills with all organizational levels, both internal and external
  • Capacity to build and maintain productive relationships across the district and with external partners
  • Proficiency with computers and district software including database management, spreadsheets, word processing, calculators, copy machines, and telephones
  • Skill in data analysis
  • Talented in interview techniques, public speaking, and problem-solving

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • The role involves light work with occasional lifting
  • Attendance at evening and weekend events is occasionally required
  • Primarily office-based work with prolonged desk time
  • Requires moderate travel
