About the Role
The Dean of Academics plays an essential role in partnering with the principal to deliver strong instructional, cultural, and administrative leadership aimed at improving student success, safety, well-being, and social-emotional learning. This role fosters a positive learning environment and ensures the school's overall effectiveness.
Position Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution required
- At least 2 years of teaching experience in a pre-K through 12 educational setting
- Master’s Degree preferred but not mandatory
Key Responsibilities
- Fully supports and promotes the mission, vision, and core values of the school network
- Earn Danielson certification within three months from start date
- Active participant in the Instructional Leadership Team to execute instructional practices
- Lead and foster a culture of continuous learning among educators and staff
- Organize and lead data meetings at campus and team levels
- Conduct formal teacher observations annually and frequent walkthroughs
- Provide coaching to teachers through ongoing observation and feedback cycles
- Plan and co-lead campus-wide professional learning sessions and collaborate with Professional Learning Community leaders
- Model instructional best practices known as the Arc of the Year techniques
- Develop and implement the Campus Improvement Plan
- Support teacher progress toward micro-credentials
- Communicate instructional insights to district and network leadership
- Collect and create evidence of instructional excellence
- Assist in creating the master schedule and student schedules
- Oversee academic and assessment efforts across special programs such as SPED, Dyslexia, Section 504, ESL, and Gifted and Talented
- Analyze and utilize common assessment data (e.g., district-wide tests, NWEA MAP)
- Manage campus-wide academic interventions, support teachers with strategies, and monitor related data
- Stay informed on latest curriculum trends, instructional methods, materials, and relevant governmental guidelines
- Coordinate with district staff, families, and school personnel for smooth school openings
- Organize and conduct teacher orientations
- Plan and oversee academic teams and competitions
- Implement and manage T-STEM blueprint initiatives
- Review lesson plans, curriculum scope, and sequence
- Supervise Project-Based Learning and other academic projects
- Manage instructional software usage and goal-setting procedures for educators and students
- Collaborate with parents and community committees on school matters
- Develop guidelines for student behavior and discipline ensuring a safe learning environment
- Establish clear behavioral expectations and systems, including social-emotional support
- Lead initiatives to deliver and coordinate student support services
- Supervise classroom management by teachers and staff
- Train staff in student code of conduct and disciplinary procedures
- Maintain detailed records of disciplinary actions to ensure fair enforcement
- Communicate regularly with parents and stakeholders regarding student safety and discipline
- Maintain safe, orderly grounds and perform safety checks
- Monitor attendance, truancy, recruitment, enrollment, and retention efforts
- Manage support staff supervision and conduct performance reviews
- Develop and implement a unified social-emotional learning plan aligned with district priorities
- Lead the process for Character School application and state/national recognition
- Build professional relationships with students, parents, staff, and community
- Promote active parent and community involvement
- Participate in recruiting, selecting, and retaining effective teaching staff
- Attend relevant meetings, conferences, and training
- Demonstrate commitment to ongoing professional growth for self and others
- Exhibit the highest ethical standards in interactions with all school community members
- Perform other assigned duties as necessary
Required Skills and Abilities
- Comprehensive knowledge of curriculum, assessments, instructional best practices, classroom management, school culture, and social-emotional learning programs
- Ability to absorb and implement feedback from varied sources effectively
- Strong oral and written communication skills across organizational levels
- Proficient in building and sustaining relationships internally and externally
- Computer proficiency including databases, spreadsheets, word processing, and common office equipment
- Ability to analyze data and prepare detailed reports
- Skilled in interview, public speaking, and problem-solving techniques
Work Environment and Physical Demands
- Light physical activity, such as occasional lifting, is expected
- Some activities may occur during evenings or weekends
- Primarily office-based with extended periods at a desk
- Moderate travel requirements
