Job description
Role overview
The Day Care Worker supports children’s day-to-day care, safety, learning, and overall well-being at the MMFN Daycare Centre. The role contributes to developmentally suitable programming, activities that reflect cultural sensitivity, healthy daily routines, and a clean, secure, and encouraging environment for children.
Key responsibilities
- Support the planning and delivery of age-appropriate daycare activities and programs that are both developmentally suitable and culturally respectful.
- Guide, supervise, demonstrate, and encourage children throughout the day in a safe and considerate manner.
- Assist with preparing and serving healthy meals and snacks according to daycare routines and direction from the supervisor.
- Observe children’s health, safety, and general well-being while they are in care.
- Respond to parent questions and concerns and escalate matters to the Daycare Supervisor when needed.
- Record observations and complete reports or other documentation as required.
- Work with the daycare team to identify opportunities for program improvement and help put changes into practice.
- Follow all daycare policies, procedures, guidelines, and expectations for age-appropriate behaviour.
- Develop and maintain positive professional relationships with children, parents, caregivers, coworkers, and supervisors.
- Help keep the daycare space clean, organised, and safe at all times.
- Carry out additional daycare-related duties as assigned, provided they remain within the scope of the role.
Qualifications and experience
Experience in a daycare, preschool, school, recreation, family support, or another child-focused setting is considered an advantage. Strong verbal communication skills are important, along with the ability to interact respectfully with children, families, and colleagues. The ideal candidate should work well in a team, show initiative, and manage priorities effectively. A professional, dependable, responsive, and positive approach is expected. Applicants should understand confidentiality in a child-care and family-service setting and be physically able to lift and carry up to 45 pounds while performing work that involves both standing and sitting.
Required documents and conditions
A recent RCMP/police abstract with vulnerable sector check is required and must be dated within the last 3 months. A valid driver’s licence and access to a personal vehicle are also required, as the workplace is in a rural location with no public transportation available.
Additional qualifications considered an asset
First Aid, CPR, ECE Assistant certification, or similar child-care related training will be viewed favourably.
