Database Administrator (Contract)

Role overview

This contract position belongs to the IT Operations Division, specifically the Infrastructure Services Management Team, and focuses on keeping enterprise database platforms reliable, secure, and available for critical banking operations.

Key responsibilities

• Build, deploy, and support Oracle, SQL Server, and PostgreSQL environments, including pgvector, for essential banking workloads.
• Set up and manage high-availability solutions such as Oracle RAC, SQL Server Always On, and PostgreSQL clustering/HA architectures.
• Improve database speed, stability, and protection through continuous monitoring, troubleshooting, and tuning.
• Create and maintain backup, restore, and disaster-recovery processes to safeguard data and support business continuity.
• Work with other technical teams to connect database platforms with applications and wider infrastructure services.
• Track database security issues, apply patches and upgrades, and reduce exposure to vulnerabilities.
• Automate recurring database maintenance and administration activities.
• Support compliance with data protection requirements and internal governance standards.

Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a closely related discipline.
• At least 5 years of hands-on experience administering Oracle, SQL Server, and PostgreSQL (including pgvector) in a financial institution or similarly critical setting.
• Professional certifications in Oracle, MSSQL, and PostgreSQL.
• Demonstrated experience delivering and operating Oracle RAC, SQL Server Always On, and PostgreSQL high-availability setups.
• Strong knowledge of database security, performance optimization, and disaster recovery methods.
• Ability to script in languages such as Shell, Python, or Perl, with exposure to database automation tools.
• Good analytical skills and the ability to stay effective under pressure in a fast-moving environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical topics clearly.
• Working knowledge of DevOps concepts and tooling.
• Awareness of database compliance frameworks such as CIS baselines and Government IM8.
• Exposure to additional database platforms such as MySQL or Yugabyte is an advantage.
• Experience installing and managing databases in AWS environments.
