About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Data Scientist to join a dynamic team on a fixed-term maternity cover contract based in Galway. This hybrid position requires working on-site four days a week with one remote day. The successful candidate will contribute to transforming complex datasets into practical business insights and scalable analytical solutions.
Responsibilities
- Utilize sophisticated machine learning algorithms, statistical methods, and cloud-based tools to derive meaningful value from extensive datasets.
- Own data science initiatives from conception through deployment, ensuring delivery of insights that facilitate informed business decisions.
- Partner with cross-functional groups such as Product, Engineering, and Data teams to frame business challenges and create analytical approaches.
- Conduct thorough data analysis, modeling, and interpretation to detect trends and optimize outcomes.
- Create visual dashboards and reports tailored for both technical and non-technical audiences to communicate findings.
- Carry out data exploration, cleansing, preparation, model building, prediction, clustering, and statistical evaluation.
- Convert analytical results into actionable recommendations that influence business strategies.
- Assist with scaling machine learning implementations in live production systems.
- Advocate and implement best practices in data science, analytics, and machine learning fields.
Requirements
- Possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Computer Science, or related fields.
- Have between 3 to 5 years of industry experience in data science or advanced analytics roles.
- Strong familiarity with both supervised and unsupervised machine learning methods.
- Experienced in presenting model findings to engineers, stakeholders, and business users clearly and effectively.
- Deep understanding of statistical analysis, including inference, predictive modeling, clustering, classification, regression, and anomaly detection.
- Skilled in handling large structured and unstructured datasets.
- Proficient in Python and/or R, SQL, and competent with data visualization platforms like Tableau.
- Excellent at communicating complex analytical concepts in an accessible manner.
- Proven ability to translate data insights into impactful business advice.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in predictive maintenance, reliability modeling, survivability studies, or asset performance management.
- Familiarity with cloud-based data science and machine learning environments.
- Demonstrated project leadership capabilities including planning, estimation, and managing stakeholder expectations.
- Background working with data in engineering, manufacturing, industrial, transportation, automotive, or IoT sectors.
- Postgraduate studies in related disciplines is a plus.
