About the Company
Naveris is a commercial-stage precision oncology diagnostics company with operations in Boston, Massachusetts and Durham, North Carolina. The company’s mission is to develop and deliver innovative diagnostics that improve cancer detection and patient outcomes, with a focus on cancers linked to viral causes. Its lead test, NavDx, is a blood-based DNA assay for HPV-associated cancers that has been clinically validated and is already used by thousands of physicians and healthcare organizations across the United States.
Role Overview
The company is hiring a Data Scientist focused on evidence generation to support clinical and translational research in virally driven cancer diagnostics. This position oversees data science activities for Naveris, including work related to the NAVigate-HPV clinical registry and other real-world evidence initiatives. The selected candidate will build and run study protocols, create research tools, and prepare and analyze datasets from medical records and other sources to advance clinical research goals. Strong experience in clinical research methods, oncology and/or molecular diagnostics, and cross-functional project coordination is highly valued, along with prior exposure to real-world evidence and multi-site research settings.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to statistical analysis plans for research studies and take part in discussions around study design and outcome measurement.
- Build and update data collection tools, including case report forms and similar instruments.
- Clean, validate, extract, transfer, and organize data for analysis; create dictionaries, combine datasets, and define or recode variables to maintain data quality.
- Carry out standard biostatistical analyses, escalating more complex work to senior colleagues when needed.
- Help set up and maintain systems for storing analytic outputs and research materials in a structured and retrievable way.
- Support data quality processes, identify issues, and report or escalate problems appropriately.
- Produce tables, charts, and written summaries for internal and external stakeholders.
- Track project progress, support execution of study plans, and communicate milestone status to the team.
- Act as a main contact for outside research collaborators involved in studies, publications, and the NAVigate-HPV registry.
- Support onboarding and training for new collaborators, including access to tools, templates, systems, and guidance documents.
- Draft abstracts and manuscripts, including tables, figures, and written sections for scientific submissions.
- Coordinate publication and presentation materials by collecting input from internal authors, medical writers, and external partners.
- Keep relevant stakeholders informed about publication activities and timelines.
- Serve as a liaison among study sites, laboratory teams, regulatory functions, and evidence generation teams.
Requirements
- Master’s degree or PhD preferred in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Health or Clinical Informatics, Computational Biology, or a closely related discipline.
- 3 to 5 years of experience working with real-world data, clinical datasets, or healthcare analytics in academic or applied settings.
- Prior participation in multi-site or cross-institutional research collaborations is required.
- Working knowledge of observational study design or real-world evidence methods through coursework or hands-on experience.
- Practical experience with regression, survival analysis, nonparametric techniques, and causal inference methods.
- Exposure to electronic health record data, claims data, or patient registry data in professional or academic environments.
- Experience contributing to health economics and outcomes research, health technology assessment, or regulatory evidence submissions.
- Familiarity with GCP, 21 CFR Part 11, and HIPAA requirements in a clinical research context.
- Proven ability to build and maintain relational databases, data pipelines, and analysis-ready datasets.
- Experience creating case report forms and other data collection tools; medical record abstraction experience is a plus.
- Technical proficiency with Python or R, SQL, Tableau, Excel, and statistical reporting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Understanding of the publication process, authorship rules, and collaborative research agreements.
- Strong project management and stakeholder communication skills.
- Excellent organization and multitasking abilities with the capacity to manage multiple deadlines at once.
- Exposure to data-sharing agreements, material transfer agreements, research agreements, or limited data set use agreements is beneficial.
- Any peer-reviewed publications, scientific presentations, or research reports are considered an advantage.
- Interest in or exposure to regulatory affairs, health outcomes research, or market access work is helpful.
Compliance and Policy Requirements
All employees must follow HIPAA and other applicable legal and regulatory standards. Team members are expected to comply with company policies and internal standards, report suspected violations or misuse, and complete HIPAA training at onboarding.
Compensation and Work Environment
The position includes competitive compensation, support for work-life balance, and the option to work remotely.
