Job Overview
As a Data Scientist at Mazda North American Operations, you will be tasked with mining and analyzing extensive and complex data sets from multiple sources. Your role is vital in enabling the organization to make insightful business decisions by uncovering meaningful patterns, forecasting trends, and deriving actionable intelligence using advanced data analysis, statistical modeling, and machine learning techniques.
Key Responsibilities
- Gather, preprocess, and conduct exploratory analysis of large-scale datasets from diverse origins to identify meaningful trends and insights.
- Develop and implement predictive models for evaluating company performance, scheduling maintenance efficiently, and enhancing customer experiences.
- Apply sophisticated statistical methods and machine learning algorithms to detect correlations, anomalies, and emerging data patterns within Mazda's data.
- Collaborate with data engineers, analysts, and stakeholders to integrate data-based solutions into products and services effectively.
- Serve as a knowledgeable advisor on data science methodologies and tools to various internal clients.
- Assist departments in troubleshooting data-related challenges and promote data literacy throughout the organization.
- Increase visibility and awareness of data products company-wide and educate business partners on the value and application of data science aligned with business goals.
- Keep abreast of industry best practices, current trends, and emerging analytics technologies; act as a technical mentor within the data science team.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Operations Research, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent education and work experience.
- Master’s degree in a quantitative field is highly recommended.
- At least three years of practical experience in developing and applying predictive models and statistical techniques in corporate or consulting environments.
- Proficient in visual analytics development and presentation.
- Experience working with data handling platforms such as Hadoop, Spark, Hive, Power Pivot, Alteryx, and SQL, as well as visualization tools like Tableau or Power BI.
- Programming skills in Python, R, and SQL.
- At least one year of experience engaging with senior stakeholders and non-technical business leadership.
Preferred Attributes
- Previous experience in marketing analytics.
- Certifications or specialized training in specific data science methods and algorithms.
Technical Skills and Competencies
- Expertise in statistical analysis and data mining tools such as R, NumPy, Pandas, TensorFlow, SciKit-Learn, SPSS, Alteryx, MatLab, STATA, and Excel.
- Competent in data management technologies including SQL/RDBMS, NoSQL databases like MongoDB, and big data platforms such as Hadoop.
- Advanced programming ability in at least one of the languages: Java, Python, R, C++, or C#.
- Experience combining multiple data sources with visualization platforms including Power BI and Tableau.
- Familiarity with marketing analytic models including attribution and media mix models.
- Understanding of digital marketing analytics tools such as Adobe Analytics, Google Analytics, Webtrends, DoubleClick, Atlas, and digital tag management; direct Adobe/Omniture experience is a plus.
- Strong analytical mindset with problem-solving capabilities to break down issues, identify root causes, and propose effective solutions.
- Effective communication and presentation skills, with ability to make technical content accessible to varied audiences.
- Skilled in managing multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced setting while consistently meeting deadlines.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint, Outlook) and adaptable to new software tools used by the company.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to build and sustain relationships with colleagues, management, clients, and vendors effectively.
- Self-driven work ethic requiring minimal supervision with capability to plan and prioritize individual and departmental goals.
Additional Details
- Travel requirements include occasional trips one to two times per year.
- The position supports remote work across multiple US states including but not limited to California, New York, Texas, Florida, and Washington.
- The salary range offered is $95,500 to $145,675 annually, determined based on education, experience, expertise, internal equity, and market benchmarking.
