Role Overview

The University of Lübeck's Department of Neurology is seeking a Physician or Data Science Researcher to lead neurovascular research initiatives. This role involves utilizing extensive healthcare datasets, applying statistical modeling, and employing epidemiological techniques to enhance understanding and treatment of neurological disorders, notably stroke and other neurovascular diseases. The position offers flexibility with full-time or part-time engagement, initially for three years with potential for extension.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement research projects utilizing large-scale healthcare and clinical routine data.
  • Analyze data using platforms such as TriNetX, DESTATIS, health insurance records, and clinical registries.
  • Perform systematic reviews and meta-analyses.
  • Apply sophisticated causal inference methodologies to observational healthcare datasets.
  • Engage in collaborations with both national and international research teams.
  • Lead scientific investigations from conception through to publication.
  • Support grant writing and assist in securing external funding.
  • Contribute to academic teaching and activities if desired.
  • Optionally provide clinical patient care based on qualification and interest.

Required Qualifications

  • Medical degree with licensure and experience in neurovascular or cardiovascular research, or a PhD in Data Science or related scientific field.
  • Proficient understanding of statistical methodologies applicable to healthcare data.
  • Hands-on experience with statistical software like R or SAS.
  • Familiarity with real-world healthcare databases including TriNetX, DESTATIS, or insurance claims data.
  • Knowledge of causal inference techniques such as IPTW, Propensity Score Matching, and Target Trial Emulation.
  • Experience with meta-analytical methods preferred.
  • Strong passion for medical research and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Fluency in both written and spoken German is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Formal education or additional training in Epidemiology.
  • Neurology board certification.
  • Experience in clinical research focusing on neurovascular topics.
  • Proven track record of scientific publications and experience in grant proposal writing.
