Position Overview

We are seeking a Data Science Analyst to join the Healthcare team within Global Investment Research. This team manages over $100 billion in healthcare investments across more than 50 portfolio managers worldwide. Their investment focus spans the entire healthcare spectrum including Biopharma, Healthcare Services, and Medical Technology, supported by a team of over 10 professionals.

The Data Science Analyst will collaborate closely with Global Industry Analysts and Portfolio Managers, leveraging data science, AI, and alternative data sources to generate unique investment insights within healthcare sectors such as MedTech, Pharmaceuticals, Biotech, and Healthcare Services. Candidates should have practical investment experience, advanced skills in Python, SQL, and AI tools, strong analytical judgment for transforming complex datasets into actionable outputs, and a passion for the healthcare industry. The role demands independent work, proactive prioritization, and flexibility in handling both in-depth dataset analyses and rapid turnaround tasks.

Core Responsibilities

• Collaborate as a key member of the Healthcare team working directly with Industry Analysts and Portfolio Managers.
• Convert broad investment questions into testable data science workflows and analytical solutions.
• Utilize AI and agentic tools to enhance research efficiency and contribute to generating investment ideas.
• Present findings clearly, addressing limitations, confidence, and interpretative risks.
• Act as a seasoned data science expert within the Healthcare coverage area.
• Quickly familiarize with new companies, sub-sectors, datasets, and business models as needed.
• Evaluate and prioritize incoming requests based on potential investment impact, feasibility, and reusability of outputs.
• Create differentiated signals and analytical frameworks from alternative and structured healthcare-related datasets.
• Assess data quality, coverage, inherent biases, and longevity of signals.
• Develop reusable tools, screening processes, and research outputs applicable across different companies and themes.
• Work alongside Data Engineering to operationalize valuable data signals where applicable.

Candidate Qualifications

• 3 to 5+ years of experience in data science, alternative data analysis, investment research, healthcare analytics, or related analytical roles.
• Previous collaboration with investment or research teams and senior stakeholders.
• Proficient in Python and SQL programming.
• Familiarity with AI/LLM tools and agentic workflows to optimize research processes and idea generation.
• Experience managing large, messy real-world datasets.
• Hands-on engagement with diverse alternative datasets, including sourcing and evaluating emerging data sources.
• Strong capability in evaluating dataset validity, biases, representation, and robustness of derived signals.
• Investment-oriented mindset with curiosity about market dynamics, companies, and translating data into actionable investment theses.
• Ability to convert ambiguous business or investment questions into specific analyses.
• Effective communicator able to explain complex findings to senior-level stakeholders.
• High judgement and comfort working independently in unclear or evolving environments.

Location and Work Arrangement

While the ideal candidate will be based at Wellington's Global Headquarters in Boston, MA, consideration will be given to candidates located in the New York, NY office. The role supports a hybrid work model, with employees working onsite four days weekly and remote one day per week, balancing collaboration and flexibility.

Compensation and Benefits

The base salary range for this position is $90,000 to $180,000 annually, reflecting various factors such as relevant skills, experience, certifications, and education. The compensation package may also include discretionary bonuses and incentives.
