Role overview

As a Data Center Technician at Microsoft, you will build hands-on experience with the core routines used to prepare, install, diagnose, troubleshoot, replace, and retire equipment in a data center environment. You will work under the direction of more senior colleagues while deepening your understanding of site operations, security controls, and data handling practices. The role is designed to support your professional growth through practical learning in a fast-moving cloud infrastructure setting.

What you will do

• Track and help resolve issues by escalating where needed, asking for support, and working toward timely closure with guidance from experienced technicians.
• Take part in daily safety briefings and complete all role-related training, including safety practices for equipment handling, lifting, electrical risks, and ladder or rolling stair use.
• Work assigned tickets efficiently while supporting KPI and SLA expectations, with direction from other team members.
• Follow security and data management procedures and complete the required security training, again with support from the team.
• Keep a strong customer-minded approach and understand how completed tasks affect service outcomes.
• Contribute to a collaborative team atmosphere by sharing updates, participating in team meetings, asking questions, and staying informed about others’ work.
• Take ownership of service quality, completeness, and the overall condition of the data center facilities.
• Represent the company’s culture and values in day-to-day work.

Eligibility and qualifications

Applicants should have completed secondary school, a GED, an apprenticeship or vocational qualification, or have equivalent experience, along with basic knowledge of computer hardware and components. A valid driver’s license is required if travel between sites is needed.

Experience supporting IT equipment or related technologies is preferred, though not mandatory. Helpful certifications include CompTIA A+, Server+, Network+, and Basic Structure Cabling (BSC).

Screening and compliance requirements

Candidates must be able to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements. This includes passing Microsoft Cloud background checks at hire or transfer and every two years after that. The role also requires verification of citizenship or another protected status to satisfy legal requirements.

Pay and benefits

The Ireland base salary range for Data Center Technicians ATR-B is €35,200 to €46,100 per year. For Data Center Technicians ATR-C, the typical base salary range is €40,500 to €59,900 per year. Some positions may also qualify for benefits and additional compensation.
