About Rockwell Automation
Rockwell Automation is a global leader in technology, dedicated to enhancing productivity, sustainability, and agility in manufacturing industries. With over 28,000 employees, their solutions support essential companies involved in food production, global healthcare, clean water, and green transportation. Their team thrives on problem-solving and making impactful changes worldwide.
Role Overview
The Data Analyst will serve as a strategic partner to business stakeholders, aligning business strategies with organizational goals through data insights. This role requires deep collaboration with both business and technology teams to translate broad business requirements into detailed functional, non-functional, and data specifications.
A primary responsibility is designing and constructing data models from inception, ensuring that business needs are accurately transformed into scalable, robust data structures. The analyst will define data models including fact and dimension tables, star and snowflake schemas, and establish data relationships to support downstream data utilization.
Close coordination with design and development groups will ensure data models are effectively implemented in technical solutions. Expertise in data modeling and SQL is essential, with data visualization skills considered supportive but not primary.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect and verify business, IT, and data specifications to establish scope, success measures, and key metrics.
- Convert business requirements into data modeling needs, detailing entities, relationships, and structure.
- Design both logical and physical data models from the ground up, utilizing fact/dimension and star/snowflake schema approaches.
- Determine appropriate data granularity, hierarchies, and semantic layers to facilitate analytics and reporting.
- Collaborate with stakeholders and enterprise architects to ensure data models adhere to overall data architecture standards.
- Maintain high data quality, consistency, and governance, including metadata management and approval.
- Optimize data models for performance, scalability, and long-term maintenance.
- Analyze and resolve production issues related to data or model design, proposing enhancements.
- Lead discussions with business stakeholders to align model design with near-term priorities (3 to 6 months).
- Coordinate across teams to identify dependencies and support seamless delivery of data solutions.
- Utilize modeling or prototyping tools (such as Power BI) primarily for validating data models and business logic.
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related discipline.
- Proven track record in designing and building both logical and physical data models, including fact/dimension and star/snowflake schemas.
- Experience developing data models from initial requirements through implementation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Core Skills
- Hands-on expertise in end-to-end data modeling and design.
- Advanced SQL proficiency.
- Comprehensive understanding of fact and dimension modeling techniques.
- Knowledge of star schema versus snowflake schema structures.
- Familiarity with data warehousing principles.
Preferred Attributes
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to translate complex business needs into structured data models and solutions.
- Experience collaborating across functional teams and challenging design assumptions.
- Insight into system design, architecture standards, and data security practices.
- Exposure to analytics and data platforms such as Azure SQL Data Warehouse, Azure Analysis Services, and Power BI.
- Familiarity with Python, Azure Data Factory, and Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2.
- Background in financial processes including general ledger, cost center, and profitability analysis.
- Experience with SAP systems (ECC, CRM, Hybris).
- Knowledge of enterprise planning tools such as Hyperion and Enterprise Planning and Budgeting.
Important Note
- Candidates with experience focused solely on data visualization or Power BI without core data modeling expertise will not be considered.
- Proficiency in SQL and data modeling is mandatory, other skills are advantageous but not required.
Employee Benefits
- Access to comprehensive mindfulness programs including premium Calm membership.
- Volunteer paid time off available after six months for eligible employees.
- Matching donations program for volunteer hours or personal donations to qualified charities.
- Employee Assistance Program for personal support.
