Role overview
The Data Analyst I - Compliance is the go-to technical lead for accessibility compliance across the organization. This role focuses on ADA-related requirements, Section 508, and WCAG 2.1 Level AA for county websites, digital services, social media, public-facing platforms, and related policies so that people with disabilities can access information and services equitably. The position serves as the central point for accessibility audit information within a distributed accountability setup, maintains the accessibility dashboard, works with Digital Accessibility Champions and IT liaisons, and delivers timely, accurate reporting that can be acted on quickly.
The job also supports compliance work by reviewing data, spotting patterns, assigning remediation tasks, and giving practical technical guidance to departmental leaders. It calls for strong analytical ability, close attention to detail, and the skill to explain complex issues clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Key responsibilities
- Build and maintain accessibility policies and operating procedures that align with ADA, Section 508, and WCAG 2.1 Level AA.
- Evaluate digital assets such as websites, mobile applications, software interfaces, and electronic documents through automated checks and manual review.
- Partner with departments to develop remediation plans that include recommendations, priority rankings, and timelines for fixing issues.
- Work alongside developers, designers, content teams, Procurement, Legal/Risk, and Human Resources to advance accessibility across digital systems.
- Deliver role-specific training on accessibility practices, assistive technology, and inclusive design principles.
- Set up monitoring and governance routines that help keep systems compliant as content and technology change.
- Support or lead cross-functional groups focused on technology, audit, or accessibility initiatives and record the results.
- Produce dashboards, reports, and supporting documentation for operational, audit, and compliance needs, while tracking trends and suggesting improvements.
- Assess vendor accessibility materials such as VPATs and help define accessibility requirements for technology procurement.
Skills and knowledge needed
- Practical understanding of ADA Title II/III, Section 508, and WCAG 2.1 Level AA with the ability to turn standards into clear guidance.
- Hands-on experience with assistive technologies, including screen readers, magnification tools, speech recognition, and alternate input devices.
- Knowledge of accessible development practices such as semantic HTML, ARIA, keyboard navigation, color contrast, focus handling, and form labels.
- Strong data analysis and reporting skills, with confidence in Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel, and dashboard or visualization tools.
- Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills for explaining accessibility topics to varied audiences.
- Project coordination, prioritization, and timeline management across multiple teams.
- Ongoing interest in changes to accessibility standards, legal guidance, and assistive technologies.
- Understanding of procurement accessibility language, vendor documentation, and VPAT review.
Minimum qualifications
Candidates must meet one of the following education and experience combinations: a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Data Analytics, Statistics, Business Intelligence, or a related field plus 1 year of experience in data analysis, reporting, business process evaluation, or similar analytical work; or an associate degree in one of those fields plus 2 years of relevant experience; or a high school diploma/equivalent plus 4 years of relevant experience.
Applicants should also have experience working with datasets, identifying trends, preparing reports for operational or compliance purposes, and coordinating or supporting cross-functional workgroups, including serving as a lead for technology, audit, or accessibility initiatives. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, is required. Effective verbal, written, and visual communication is also necessary.
Preferred background
- At least 3 years of direct accessibility compliance experience applying ADA, Section 508, and WCAG in an organizational setting.
- Professional accessibility credentials such as CPACC, WAS, or CPWA.
- Experience running end-to-end accessibility audits for web, apps, and documents using automated tools and manual methods.
