Job description

Role Overview

This role involves managing customs investigation processes specifically linked to smuggling cases that exceed administrative resolution. The specialist evaluates seizure reports, corroborates evidence, and compiles comprehensive case files for escalation while strictly adhering to applicable laws, procedures, and operational standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate seizure documents and associated materials to verify completeness, accuracy, and compliance with regulations.
  • Interpret case details and evidence to validate suspected violations using established investigation techniques.
  • Determine and document preliminary criminal responsibility and prepare detailed case findings.
  • Compile and organize case files and essential records for submission to the Public Prosecution office.
  • Conduct interviews with suspects, document their statements, and ensure proper advisement of their legal rights per procedural requirements.
  • Ensure prompt notification to Public Prosecution upon case incident as per stipulated protocols.
  • Draft and submit formal requests to initiate customs-related criminal proceedings for supervisory approval.
  • Maintain meticulous and systematic records of all investigative activities and documentation.
  • Collaborate with internal departments such as legal, operations, and compliance to fulfill case documentation needs.
  • Identify and address deficiencies in case materials and follow up to obtain necessary information.
  • Refer complex or ambiguous cases to higher management with well-substantiated analysis.
  • Support adherence to internal policies, procedural compliance, and audit standards.

Educational Qualifications

Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Law, Business Administration, or a related discipline.

Experience and Competencies

The ideal candidate will possess 2 to 4 years of relevant expertise in fields such as customs, compliance, investigations, or legal support. Key competencies expected include:

  • Developing skills in collaboration, communication, customer focus, enablement of change, and professionalism.
  • Proficiency in legal advisory, contract and agreement management, legal writing, policy drafting, legislation understanding, negotiation, influence, and research and analysis.
  • An orientation towards results.
