Job description
About the role
As a Customer Delivery Driver, you’ll represent Tesco at customers’ doorsteps and play a key part in making home shopping feel easy, friendly, and reliable. The work is varied, practical, and physically active, with each shift bringing something different. While you’ll spend much of the day working on your own, you’ll always have support from managers and colleagues at the store base.
Availability window
- Wednesday: 08:00 to 22:00
- Friday: 08:00 to 22:00
- Saturday: 18:00 to 23:00
Pay and hours
Hourly pay begins at £14.18, increasing to £15.45 for stores located within the M25. Some sites may also include extra payments. A minimum of 16 hours per week is assured, and roles offering 12 hours are also available.
Key duties
You’ll be expected to keep your van, trays, and work area clean, safe, and well ordered so every delivery arrives in excellent condition. You’ll load the vehicle securely, carry out the required safety and roadworthiness checks, and make sure everything is ready for the day’s route. When orders change, items are unavailable, or products are close to their date, you’ll explain the situation clearly and courteously, offering refunds where needed to keep the customer experience smooth. You’ll handle all goods carefully, as if delivering your own shopping, and complete drops within the agreed time slot while offering a warm and respectful service at the door.
What you’ll need
This role calls for someone who works well with others and helps build a positive team environment. You should come across as welcoming and approachable with both customers and colleagues, and be ready to adapt quickly when plans change on the road or in store. A full or automatic UK, EU, or EEA driving licence held for at least 12 months is required, along with no more than 3 penalty points.
Benefits
You’ll receive holiday starting at 20 days plus one personal day, increasing to 22 days after 12 months, in addition to Bank Holidays. Flexible working is available from day one. You’ll also get 10% off with the Colleague Clubcard, rising to 15% on pay-day weekends, plus an additional card to share with family. Other support includes free wellbeing services, life cover worth five times pay, and an award-winning pension with matched contributions of up to 7.5%. A wider benefits package includes discounts, shares, and cycle-to-work options, and a uniform is provided. Policies are also in place to support you through important life events.
