Job description

About the role

We are looking for Customer Delivery Drivers to join the Tesco Ireland team in Westport. In this role, you are the first person our customers meet, so delivering a friendly, reliable and high-quality home shopping service is central to the job. The work is physical, varied and practical, with each shift bringing different customer needs and situations. You will spend much of the day working independently on the road, while still being backed by managers and colleagues at the depot whenever support is needed.

Shift pattern: various shifts are available.

What the job involves

  • Delivering an excellent home shopping service by keeping the customer at the centre of every task.
  • Loading the vehicle when required and checking that it is roadworthy before setting off.
  • Following the planned route and schedule assigned for the shift.
  • Representing the company professionally by wearing the correct uniform and being ready to help customers.
  • Driving carefully, responsibly and in line with all legal requirements.
  • Showing courtesy and respect to every road user.
  • Greeting customers warmly and serving them with a friendly attitude.
  • Handling deliveries with the same care you would give your own belongings.

Requirements

  • A full Irish or EU driving licence, either manual or automatic, held for at least 2 years.
  • No more than 3 penalty points on the licence.
  • A safe, considerate and responsible approach to driving.
  • A genuine interest in helping other people.
  • A friendly, approachable personality with strong communication skills and a good sense of humour.
  • The confidence to use initiative and common sense.
  • A customer-focused mindset and the ability to make a positive difference for both customers and colleagues.
  • The ability to remain composed when under pressure.

Additional information

As part of the hiring process, all job offers depend on Garda Vetting. Applicants will also need to show proof of their current penalty points during the assessment stage. This proof can be requested from the National Driver Licence Services (NDLS) by calling 1890 41 61 41, choosing Option 4 and quoting the driver number.

If you have been disqualified from driving at any point in the last 10 years, the application cannot be accepted.

If your application is successful, you will need to provide your bank account details before your agreed start date, and the offer will remain conditional on that being completed.

Benefits

  • A choice of shift patterns.
  • Part-time and full-time contracts available, ranging from 20 to 39 hours per week.
  • Starting pay of €18.24 per hour for new drivers, plus an additional premium for Sunday work.
  • Annual bonus scheme.
  • Colleague Clubcard savings, including 10% off in stores and online, 15% off on selected Friday to Sunday weekends once a month, and 20% off twice a year, plus 20% off F&F clothing all year; the discounts can also be extended to a family member through a second Clubcard, subject to scheme rules.
  • Free and confidential Virtual GP access for colleagues, with reduced-cost access for family members living at the same address.
  • 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme support for colleagues and family members, along with wellbeing services under the Wellbeing First approach.
  • Life assurance.
  • Pension plan, subject to scheme rules.
  • Save As You Earn scheme, subject to scheme rules.
  • Paid family leave.
  • Bike to Work scheme.
  • Long service awards.
  • Commuter scheme.

About Tesco Ireland

Tesco’s goal is to be the favourite place for customers to shop, whether they are at home or on the go. The business is guided by a wider purpose of serving customers, communities and the planet a little better every day. This means working responsibly and sustainably for customers, communities, suppliers and the environment. Through initiatives such as the Tesco Community Fund, Children’s Health Foundation, FoodCloud and Stronger Starts, Tesco has supported more than 21,000 community groups, raised over €7.5 million for medical equipment and helped provide almost 15 million meals across Ireland for people facing food insecurity.

Tesco has been active in the Irish retail market since 1997. With 170 stores across the country, it employs more than 13,000 people in cities and towns and supports nearly 45,000 jobs directly and indirectly. The company works with more than 500 Irish suppliers, almost three-quarters of which are small and medium-sized enterprises, supporting nearly 13,000 farming families. Tesco is the largest buyer of Irish food and drink in the world, purchasing €1.6 billion each year.

The company places strong value on inclusion and believes everyone should feel able to be themselves at work. Flexible working conversations are welcomed throughout the application process, and support is available for people at different life stages, including those starting their careers, becoming carers, approaching retirement or adjusting to parenthood. Tesco also encourages candidates to request reasonable adjustments where needed during recruitment.
