Job description

About the role

Tesco is looking for Customer Delivery Drivers to join the team in Tramore, Waterford. In this role, you will be the first person customers meet from the company, helping deliver a smooth and positive home shopping experience. The work is active, varied, and hands-on, with no two shifts looking the same. While you’ll work independently on deliveries for much of the day, support is available from managers and colleagues at base whenever needed.

Shift options vary.

Key duties

  • Deliver an excellent home shopping service by keeping customers at the centre of every action.
  • Load the van when needed and carry out checks to make sure it is roadworthy.
  • Follow the route and schedule prepared for each shift.
  • Present yourself in uniform and be ready to assist customers.
  • Drive in a safe, lawful, and responsible manner at all times.
  • Show courtesy to all other road users.
  • Welcome customers warmly, including greeting them by name where possible.
  • Handle deliveries with the same care as if they were your own.

What you need to bring

  • A full Irish or EU driving licence, manual or automatic, held for at least 2 years.
  • No more than 3 penalty points on your licence.
  • A strong commitment to safe and considerate driving.
  • A genuine interest in helping others.
  • Good interpersonal skills, a friendly manner, and a sense of humour.
  • Clear communication skills.
  • The confidence to use initiative and practical judgement.
  • A customer-first attitude and a desire to make a positive difference for customers and colleagues.
  • The ability to stay composed when under pressure.

Recruitment and compliance requirements

As part of the hiring process, any offer will depend on Garda Vetting. Candidates must also provide proof of their current penalty points at assessment stage. This can be requested from the National Driver Licence Services (NDLS) by calling 1890 41 61 41, selecting Option 4, and quoting the driver number.

Applicants who have been disqualified from driving at any point within the last 10 years cannot be considered. If successful, you will also need to provide your bank account details before your agreed start date.

Benefits

  • Access to a choice of shifts.
  • Part-time and full-time contracts available, ranging from 20 to 39 hours per week.
  • Starting hourly pay of €18.24 for new drivers, plus extra pay for Sunday work.
  • Annual bonus scheme.
  • Colleague Clubcard discounts, including 10% off in stores and online, 15% off on selected weekends once a month, and 20% off twice a year; 20% off F&F clothing year-round; these benefits can be extended to one family member with a second Clubcard.
  • Free, confidential Virtual GP support through video consultations and online prescriptions, with reduced-cost access for eligible family members living at the same address.
  • 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme for you and family members, plus wellbeing services through Tesco's Wellbeing First approach.
  • Life assurance.
  • Pension plan, subject to scheme rules.
  • Save As You Earn scheme, subject to scheme rules.
  • Paid family leave.
  • Bike to Work scheme.
  • Long service awards.
  • Commuter scheme.
