Job description
About the role
Tesco is looking for Customer Delivery Drivers to join its team in Killarney Park. The role is a hands-on, physically active position with frequent variety in day-to-day tasks, and you will often be the first representative customers meet. While you will work independently on deliveries for much of your shift, support is available from managers and colleagues at the base whenever needed.
Shift patterns vary, and the position involves a mix of delivery, customer service, and safe driving responsibilities.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver a strong home-shopping service by keeping customers at the centre of every interaction.
- Load the van when needed and confirm that it is roadworthy before setting off.
- Follow the route and schedule assigned for the shift.
- Wear the required uniform and present a professional appearance.
- Drive carefully, responsibly, and in line with all legal requirements.
- Show courtesy to other road users at all times.
- Greet customers warmly and serve them in a friendly, personal way.
- Handle customer deliveries with the same care you would give your own items.
Requirements
- A full Irish or EU driving licence, manual or automatic, held for at least 2 years.
- No more than 3 penalty points on the licence.
- A safe and considerate driving style.
- A genuine interest in helping people.
- A personable manner, a good sense of humour, and strong communication skills.
- The confidence to use initiative and practical judgement.
- A customer- and colleague-focused attitude.
- The ability to remain composed when under pressure.
Additional recruitment conditions
All offers are subject to Garda Vetting. Candidates must also provide proof of current penalty points during the assessment stage, which can be requested from the National Driver Licence Services (NDLS) by calling 1890 41 61 41, selecting Option 4, and quoting the driver number. Applications from people who have been disqualified from driving within the last 10 years cannot be accepted. If successful, you will also need to provide your bank account details before your agreed start date.
What’s offered
- A range of shift options.
- Part-time and full-time contracts available, from 20 to 39 hours per week.
- Starting pay of €18.24 per hour for new drivers, plus an extra premium for Sunday work.
- Annual bonus scheme.
- Colleague Clubcard discounts, including 10% off in stores and online, 15% off on selected weekend dates once a month, 20% off twice a year, and 20% off F&F clothing all year; these discounts can also be extended to a family member through a second Clubcard.
- Access to a virtual GP service with video consultations and online prescriptions for colleagues, with a reduced-cost option for family members living at the same address.
- 24/7 employee assistance and wellbeing support for colleagues and family members.
- Life assurance.
- Pension plan.
- Save As You Earn scheme.
- Paid family leave.
- Bike to Work scheme.
- Long service awards.
- Commuter scheme.
